Canon EOS M100 adapter for Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III
1

Hello Experts,

I am just a beginner in this space and bought canon M100 last year. In search of good Zoom lenses I ended up buying EF 75-300 f however I totally forgot to pay attention if this will fit on my camera or not. The lens has arrived and to my fear it's not compatible with EOS M100. I am looking for the advise on adaptor which I can buy to make this combo work.

Thanks

Naveen

You can buy a genuine Canon adapter, which is guaranteed to work optimally.

Or you can buy a third party adapter and save a whole bunch of money.  But risk issues (ie. poor fit, loss of contrast, etc).

I have a couple of each including the Fotodiox Pro adapter which works fine.

Sorry to say but the optical qualities of this lens will disappoint you on the M.

Try to send it back and buy the EF-M 55-200 instead. This lens fits on the M without adapter, and is much more compact too.

I am sure a crop from this lens at 200mm will be better than the image of the other lens at 300mm.

There are many 3rd party adapters for around the $20-40 range. Some of them have contacts for AF others do not. The Canon adapter will set you back $100. As mentioned the 75-300mm is a very old lens and generally not well reviewed especially on today's modern digital cameras. The EF-M 55-200 would be significantly better but also more expensive. The EF-S 55-250 would be another better lens to adapt.

You must be able to find the EF-M 55-200 for around € 250.

See a review of the 75-300 III (mediocre !), don't buy this lens

and the EF-S 55-200 compared to the EF-M 55-200

The latter is much sharper.

Canon EF-M lenses have a very good price/performance and are compact and light, reason why you bought an M in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I mount large tele lenses on an M too.

this works fine , 2nd hand its approx £20 uk, and that would allow you to upgrade to other efs lenses in the future

MeiKe Canon EF EF-S Mount Lens to EOS M EF-M Adapter - CeX (UK): - Buy, Sell, Donate (webuy.com)

or get the canon one at 5X the price, for what is in effect just a spacer with electrical contacts

I have the Meike, it is plastic, thus lighter and with a tripod screw.

Works flawlessly.

You are comparing the older version of the EF-S 55-250mm lens. You need to look at the more modern "STM" version. You also need to look at the much more important long end of these lenses. The EF-S 55-250mm IS STM is better (and cheaper) than the EF-M 55-200mm IS STM

I have it and the Canon and don't notice any difference in performance. Plus it's only £25 new https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00YES32HM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&fpw=alm
