*** New Wildlife thread starting 28th November 2020 ***

It's Saturday somewhere so we can post from everywhere! Common or rare, pretty or not, let's see what you've got.

To post your pics, please reply to THIS post and change the title. Otherwise, in threaded mode, your post will appear to be a comment to another's post. We don't want to overlook your pics! Threaded mode lists posts in a hierarchy which is ideal for viewing threads like this one.

Try to limit pics to three or so and identify subjects if possible. It would be nice if you would provide location and other info others might find interesting. And do comment on others pics if so moved. Everyone is welcome to participate with any camera, any time. Lurkers and new members please join in.

When out viewing and photographing wildlife, I want all of you to be safe. I also want the wildlife to remain safe and minimally impacted by our presence.

Thanks Sreco. We are going alright at the moment with no cases of covid for 30 days and no known current infection either. Officially we are covid free, but New Zealand had three months of no cases, or infections and then a cluster sprang up, so you just don't know when its likely to strick again.

Re: From Panny to Nikons

Three beautiful birds isolated against a soft background. Each has excellent details, but I think the last one stands out as being slightly better in my opinion.

Fine images of the ibis, John. Both show superb plumage details.

Thank you Rodger.

Well, the third image is by the Nikon P950. Conditions were good, and so I got some fine shots at 1800mm FL. Nikon has done a good job with the P950, better than I thought in the first place. Good for me.

Stay healthy!

Well done, Avian.

I've yet to be lucky enough to encounter a red backed shrike, although they are occasional visitors over here in the UK. Maybe one day I'll get to see one.

Cheers and happy shooting to ya...

Thanks Stevie. Red-backed shrike is one of my favorites. Super agile, smart and many times too shy to be approached close enough for a decent shot. Nevertheless, we take what we got.

Stay healthy!

Re: From Panny to Nikons

Yep, I like birds with a reputation for being difficult to approach; they represent more of a challenge and often require advanced planning to gain the best shots, pretty much like our native kingfishers do over here.

Although I no longer pursue those magnificent birds, I did spend many an hour over a good few years lying around in the undergrowth or behind makeshift screens/hides awaiting a kingfisher’s arrival. Adult birds were always more skittish than young ones, which tends to apply with most tricky species.

Alas, I’m too old for all that stuff now, but I’d be tempted by the prospect of working out how to get to within 12 ft of a red-backed shrike should the opportunity ever arise. Here’s to hoping, and at least you’ve already managed to get a shot you’re happy enough with to have shared here.

Again, well done and thanks for the reply.

Cheers…

Snap with my Fuji S200EXR that's 10 years old

This oldie is built like a tank with very good glass and still delivers a solid image with it's Super CCD sensor (what Fuji calls it).

A superb image of the robin Bassy. They are great looking little birds and your photo does justice to this.
