On Santa Cruz island, the Santa Cruz Island Fox, or Island Fox for short, urocyon littoralis santacruzae. Thankfully (for my photography) it is the least skittish fox I've come across and also the reason they became almost extinct and had to be put on the endangered species list. Thankfully they became one of the most successful recovered animal on that list. So how did they become almost extinct after thriving on the island for almost 20,00 years? Golden eagles were drawn to the island for the feral pigs in the 1990's and discovered the foxes were easy prey as they were the top predator!
