DSS stacker

New to DSS. Is the program really able to process Sigma X3F raw or is it just going through the motions and I need to save as something else. Tried to use saved X3F files, not x3f/jpg combined files. Had 98 lights, 30 darks, 30 bias for test. No flats.

thx.

You might want to do a post at Cloudy Nights as well if you have not done so already.

I've found an old thread in DPReview from 2015 where there was an issue. That's along time ago.

I will use DSS for the first time today but I'm using Canon so should be no issue with raw file type.

Here is the DSS manual if you do not already have it.

I believe in wabi-sabi : a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. I appreciate beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature.

Do you have the latest version of DSS?

You absolutely need to save files out of your camera with the RAW format, not jpegs.

Here are tips on using DSS.

If your files won't work, just convert them with Adobe's free DNG converter. Those will work in DSS.

I'm not sure that even the DNG convertor can handle the Sigma files.

I am too lazy to check, but it handles everything else I've ever heard of.

Not saying you are wrong.

Thanks. Still Sigmas proprietary raw x3f files. The sigma camera's  now allow to shoot in DNG which regrettably I did not do.

Which Sigma camera did you use, Jason?

I believe Sequator can use .TIF files. If you develop your X3F files in Sigma Photo Pro and then export them as 16bit TIFs, you should be OK. Sequator is a free download.

Re: DSS stacker

I have a SDq.

But I need to go online and update all the firmware for the body as well as the dock and lenses. I have to remember and write the len settings from the dock as the hours I spent matching the lenses to the body were very tedious, but highly successful.

With updates I always go with the assumption that everything could be written over.

I have to do this this week before the saturn conjunction.

I'm probably going to shoot all DNG as well. The last update of firmware opened this benefit up. Hopefully these programs work with DNG. Photoshop seems to work with Canon or camera raw and DNG but not sigma DNG.

C'mon Sigma.
