I don't LOVE shooting with the longer focal lengths, but when I need to... the 90mm never ceases to amaze. Such a sharp lens & beautiful lens.

Hope everyone is doing well...

Nice shots! Did you switch completely from Canon to the XT-4 and GFX ? How's the AF on the XT-4. I have the XT-2 but contemplating an upgrade.

Thank you!

I haven't used my Canon gear once since I got the Fujis. And I'll be selling my Canon stuff in the next few weeks. The XT-4 AF is plenty fast for me, but I'm shooting fairly stationary models or celeb portraits (not exactly Cheetahs!). That said, the AF keeps up with my 3 year old daughter... Also not a cheetah, but somewhat of a monkey depending on her sugar intake that day.

I actually have an XT-4 and an x100v. Don't have the GFX yet, but writing a letter to Santa soon.

Thanks. Are you able to track your daughter running with the 56 1.2? It's so slow on the XT-2 I have, I missed way too many shots.

AF with the 56mm is definitely faster on the xt4. Still, not sure that's the lens I'd use for speed.

Ashley - beautiful work.  I have the 90mm on my H1 and I'm still blown away by the results.  Can you please drop the link to your website - I'd love to see the rest of your work.

Thank you, Philip. My site is www.Ashley-Barrett.com

Like I said in the original post... I don't love shooting with such a long focal length, it's something I appreciate more in other people's work. Like your photo here. Great work. But when I do use it I'm always blown away by the sharpness and punch.

As always, great shots from Ashley.

I'll just chime in that the issue with a 90mm isn't usually that it's 90mm, it's that it's 135mm on the Fuji.

That is, 90mm is of course a wonderful and traditional focal length for portraits (depending of course on the photographers preference) however 135mm has never really been universally recognized as a good portrait focal length (again this can be a subjective).

That's the difficulty when discussing lenses on crop sensor cameras - we often forget what the actual effective focal length is.

Hi Craig,

I'm inclined to agree.  I used to like 90mm - 100mm on FF, so around the 60mm mark on Fuji.  I'm not a portrait specialist by any means, but when I do take a few, I've typically used the 35/1.4 and 60/2.4.  I did buy the 90mm and it's probably one of the best lenses I've ever used, but for me it it proved to be used too infrequently to justify an expensive lens - I sold it.   And for more general tele uses I prefer the flexibility of a zoom.  I think if Fuji offered a lens with shorter FL - maybe a 70mm in the f1.4-2 range, like the old 105mm on FF - I'd have a good look at it....

Cheers, Rod
