Interesting point... are you using the built in flash or an external one?

The high speed leaf shutter used with the flash and built in ND filter are worth the price of admission. You can shoot in full sunlight at F2 and also use the flash at the same time. No other camera has these features.

I have the X100F and thought when the V came out I would simply not bite. Recently I've been reading more and more about the V and am considering upgrading. I'm not 100% sure I will take the leap to the V yet, but I am considering it at the moment. Of course a lot will depend on getting a fair price for my F should I decide to sell it.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I've sort of been in the same boat. To upgrade from the F or not? honestly, I think I won't bother, its not like the F is bad. The V is seems better, the lens and tilt screen appeal to me, but its not like the F photos suck ... well, they might, but its not the camera's fault

I already bought it. Just in using it, I started to wonder. Personally I'd rather buy used, and re-sell if I don't get along with it, than renting. That way it costs me no more if I keep it, and if I don't like it, I can usually re-sell and spend less than renting, while having it for several weeks.

I like the camera, just got to wondering if there were better options.

Of course there are other options, better or worse, depending on personal requirements and preferences. Why have you bought it in the first place?

Unique feature set
4

The X100 series is special in so many ways. It’s strange to me that people single out one specific feature, as if the camera is defined by just that. No single feature is unique to the X100, but overall it is a unique and desirable package, even if certain features are ignored entirely.

- OVF. X-Pro series has it as well, but bigger overall set-up.

- Fixed pancake lens. XF10, X70, Ricoh GR.. but lack other features (EVF, handling, FoV)

- High-quality minimalist camera. Leica Q2, Sony RX1.. but bigger, more expensive

- vs the X-E series: more compact and higher quality lens, more refined and simplified

The X100 is not the only camera available for people attracted to any of its features, but it does combine those features in a unique way.

You don’t have to care about a tilt screen to necessarily prefer it to the Q2. You don’t have to care about X-Trans to necessarily prefer it to the GR3. You don’t have to use any specific feature in order to love the camera as an overall package.

We probably all differ in terms of our priorities as to why we pick up the X100V. For me it’s definitely worth it, even if I might prefer an X-Pro3 and Q2 as a combo set-up. Neither would easily slip into my jacket for a city stroll.

The EVF is indeed better, at least hat was my experience

I like the camera but I am a fan of the film sims, and the OVF is a fun, different experience but I also like a EVF, especially if I’m shooting a film simulation, I like seeing how the shot will roughly come out vs just the OVF view. So if I’m just going to put it in EVF mode all the time, is the X100V the best option?

Not only is it not an EVF with exposure simulation in real time, it also shifts around as you focus....  right PITA, not a genuine rangefinder....  gimmick IMO

Benefit over say an XE-3 and 23mm f2 is size.

Simply put this camera fits into a tiny inside jacket pocket whereas an Xe-3 does not.

Because it's a camera I've wanted to try for a while. Just realized what I didn't like about the Ovf, though its enjoyable to look through. Was wondering what I might be missing about the camera, and there's been some great points about it.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to try different cameras and lenses if you buy used. Not to mention, if you also have an ILC then you can enjoy the X100 for what it excels at.

For example, I switched from an X-Pro2 only to an X100V with the intention of getting a used X-T2 or X-T3 for different lenses. I might even get an X-H1 instead of the X-T2 because I no longer have to worry about ultimate compactness in my ILC.

And nor does an xe-3 and 27mm fit in a small inside jacket pocket.

But lets not worry about reality.

"Inside" jacket pocket? Getting pretty technical on the fashion aren't we? As for normal jacket pockets, the kind that you put your hands in, sure it does. It also weighs less. I've tried it in like 8 diff jackets...The XT10, XT20, XE2 also fit. Now it won't fit in my suit blazers, but neither would the X100 series. How petite are you?

You really think the X100 series is that much smaller than an XE3 and 27? I just used an X100V last night, I can tell you, it's not that much smaller...talking about a few teeny MM (13mm by my calculation) in depth, it's bigger L/W...and will pull down said jacket pocket more due to the weight.

Yes,. An X70 “reboot” would be fun!

new sensor, film sims, AF,. Etc.

maybe the XE-4 will have those?,. And perhaps an X100V style flippy screen too?

Um I owned an X-100T for 18 months and it very much does fit inside an inside suit pocket. Sorry if that upsets you for some reason, but facts are just facts.

https://camerasize.com/compact/#566,721.388,703.388,ha,t

The X100 will fit easier, but the xe-3 and 27 is close. The X-T20 is stretching. I've also owned that and it did not fit in an inside suit jacket pocket.

I'm 172cm and 42 inch chest.

cheers

Well we are going on your anecdotal suit and my anecdotal jackets, not general facts. You'd have to have a quite particular suit where the X100T would go in, yet the x-e3 with 27, would not. Maybe the lens cap protuding on the 27 a bit? Could just put a filter on it sans lens cap.

Just like I have some jackets the XE3 + 27mm will go in easily, and others with more fitted pockets that are not so much.

They are only 13mm difference in girth... but the xe3/27mm is shorter in length/height and less weight.

The XT-20 the hump can definitely be a "snag" on getting it in some places.

Okay man.  I'm not out for an argument, I was just reporting my real world experience of owning the camera for 18 months while often wearing several real and not anecdotal suits as a business person.

Yes the lens being that bit deeper would make a difference with the x-e3 might be doable though, I've never owned one so I know not.   X-T20 with the hump would also make that camera much harder, which I have owned.

Anyway well there we go for anyone that wants to know, an X-100 series camera will fit in a men's suit blazer inside pocket.

All the best

One good reason to prefer the X100V is you can’t replace the lens.  If you buy any other Fuji camera, you will soon have 3-5 lenses and wish for more.  Trust me, I know.  There are the two conversion lenses, but still, your camera bag will thank you.

Not saying it wouldn’t, just saying any pocket the x100 goes into the xe3 with 27 is very likely to also fit. Of course you’ll lose out on all the other great features of x 100 series that read out like a list of superlatives.

a suit pocket is certainly one where one might fit and the other wouldn’t though, as those tend to be slim with fabric that isn’t so stretchy.

not arguing, just sharing info, I thought it was a healthy discussion going on. I’ve put most of these cameras mentioned in muitple jackets, pockets and bags haha. The main reason I got into fuji was it’s tiny size cameras and lenses.

I’m like a pixel peeper, but turn my interest in camera size and portability for lots of travel, hiking, etc. in fact I’m out in a tent right now posting from my iPhone 12 mini... def small, and impressed with the images so far.

cheers!
