Synchronize sony a6000 with a6400

I have a question. Is it possible to synchronize a Sony a6000 with a Sony a6400 so that you can make 3d pictures with the shutter at the same time.
I want to try it by using the Imaging edge mobile app. The phone with the app must trigger two cams at the same time. If that’s not possible then by using the Sony VMC-MM2 cable . Or do you have to use two a6000’s. I haven’t bought the a6400 yet and I own a a6000.
Thanks, Coen

Re: Synchronize sony a6000 with a6400

If it helps you, I managed to synchronize the following combinations through wired-remote cords:

A5000 + A5000 - direct connection; accuracy allows flash sync at >= 1/80sec

A5100 + A5100 - direct connection; accuracy allows flash sync at >= 1/80sec

A5000 + QX1 - with adjustable delay circuit ; accuracy allows flash sync at >= 1/40sec; better avoid this mess

Regards,

Oleg.

Oleg,

Thank you for your answer. Did you use that Sony VMC-MM2 cable or another type? I understand that there can be a delay of 1/80 second. So 3d can be a problem for fast moving objects?

I "cannibalized" cheap 3rd-party remotes - like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/RM-VPR1-Wired-Timer-Remote-Shutter-Release-Cable-for-Sony-A7-A6000-A5000-A6-A58/192867788019?hash=item2ce7d0e4f3:g:z7oAAOSweqNclfdQ

Yes, there is a delay, though it had to be smaller than 1/80 sec to enable flash sync at this speed.

Re: Synchronize sony a6000 with a6400

I did some investigation and it has to be possible too sync two sony a6000's by the cable VMC-MM2. Only good for taking pictures at exactly the some moment. For making movies you have to have the option: movie with shutter assigned to release button. Only the sony a6100,a6400 and a6600 have this option. So you can making movies with the shutter synchroon.

I called Sony and they say that it is not possible to sync two camera's by this cable (even two a6000's). There's is an article where someone manage to do this called: "Using the Sony VMC-MM2 cable for Sony Alpha rigs".

Has someone experience with an a6400 and a6000?

Thanks, Coen

Limited experience, but interesting. I tested a rig with a couple of 6400 (from our club member). The synch between the cameras (picture and movie) is possible with an ordinary cable between them. You can buy two such cables and connect the 2.5 mm ends together:

https://www.amazon.com/DSLRKIT-2-5mm-S2-Shutter-Connecting-NEX-3NL/dp/B00KWWWHUM

The synch is possible by setting the sleep timer to 10 seconds on both cameras. You just have to switch the cameras off and on and then wait for these 10 first seconds that both go to sleep and then wake them up by gently pressing the trigger on one of the cameras. After that the cameras are ready for synch shooting (video as well when the main button is assigned to video as well), since after that you don't have to switch them off and on again (just to wake them from sleep).

I found it by chance (the "sleep" stuff) when measuring synch between the cameras (have made some electronics which on-line measures the synch). Really interesting.

Hmm, so we can have 4k/30p 3D with perfect sync? (for fast motion)

1080 is not so sharp on these cams unfortunately, so a downscale from 4k would be also nice to have.

Re: Synchronize sony a6000 with a6400

Just share piece of my experience.

For photos.Vmc-mm2 is the easiest way and reliable. You don't need to power on the twin cameras at the same time.

For videos. vmc-mm2 is not reliable,you may need to power on  2 cameras at the same time tho.

***Important***for VIDEO; always set your shutterspeed same as the framrate. Eg  (100fps @ 1/100)(29.97fps @ 1/30)(50fps @ 1/50) etc.

This is interesting. Do I understand that this sleeptimer thing will work with 2 a6000’s.  I still haven’t tested something in a store due to corona.

Thanks, Coen

Re: Synchronize sony a6000 with a6400

Yes I saw that link already. That’s the site where I have my information from. But what’s new for me is the fact that two a6000’s can synchronize by using the sleep timer without using the video on setting in the menu of the 6400. The a6000 doesn’t have that option in the menu.

Thanks, Coen
