Xe3 or Xt20

Hi,
I'm Fuji's prodigal son, returning after 3 years in the Land of the Sony Full Framers.
I had all the lenses from Fuji then, 16mm, 56mm, 35mm etc, but sold it all to venture in the much shallower depth of field waters of the Full Frame waters.

I had the XT1, Xe2s, XA1, X10, X100 and X100s, and I have to admit nothing does skin tones better than Fuji...not to mention that companies like Viltrox now offer outstanding lenses for the Fuji X system at bargain prices.  I can get the trio of 23mm , 33mm and 56mm for the price of the 16mm Fuji that I owned.

I really missed fuji colors and now I'm planning to make a return, with either a used XE3 or XT20.

I do event photography, product photography and a bit of video on the side.

Which camera body will be giving me more back for my bucks? On the other hand, there is plan C which is a used XT100. Could this be a more logical choice given its lower price?
Doing a little shallow research here and there, I read that the XE3 does have a better focusing response, but by how much practically? I also read that the Video of the Xt100 is somewhat crippled compared to the XT20 (which is annoying)

From where I am, I can get the XE3 body, XT100 with kit and XT20 body almost at the same price.

I could be wrong but I think there are mainly only physical differences between to two so you can go with whichever body style you prefer...screen type, evf, buttons etc...you can't go wrong with either!

(xe3 has bluetooth while xt20 doesn't)

You don't want the X-T100.  The X-E3 and X-T20 have the same sensor and innards; the bodies are different.  Read the reviews on this site to get a better feel of them.

I was standing right where you are now a couple of weeks back. Thinking to get a XT20 or XE3 (second hand). I chose the XT20. Why? Cause they are basically the same camera's, but the XT20 has a tilting screen. Now, that is a huge plus for me! Also, i could get one pretty cheap in great condition. Also, the XT20 can shoot 4K, that was also a must for me (the XE3 also shoots 4K).

Dont get the XT1, XE1/2 or X100. I believe they have XTRANS II processors and the XE3/20 has the XTRANS III processor, which (apparently) is a big step upwards. Also, the film quality improved alot from there on.

Coming from a DSLR the XT20 surprised me positively. Its lightweight but sturdy, has a ton of great futures (film simulations are alot of fun) and like you already mentioned you can get great Fuji glass (also from other manufacturers).

Size wise they are pretty much the same camera's, the XT20 being slightly thicker and it has a onboard flash that sticks out on top. The XE3 has a clip on flash you can put on the hot shoe mount.

They are both great camera's, that are pretty much similar. Good luck!

The X-T20 would be my choice. It has a tilt screen, a d-pad (with 4 extra custom function buttons), and has a decent 3rd party eyecup available for it which is a big plus in direct sun. I would recommend an add-on hand grip for either.

You owned the X-E2 and X-T1 so you should already know which body style you prefer.

I had the X-T20 and switched to X-E3 because of the better handling. It felt a bit kramped holding the X-T20. But you must consider whether a tilting screen is important for you or not. The image quality is the same.

Out of these, I would go X-T20 all the way. As others have said, the X-T100 is feature-gutted to hit a competitive price, and the X-E3 is somewhere in the middle.

Have you considered an X-T2? It goes for almost exactly as cheap as the X-T20, yet it has so much to offer over the T20, at the expense of size. Though, that size bump can be an asset when mounting larger lenses.

Note that it's markedly different from the X-T1 you owned – namely in the software department. The T2 has the more 'modern' software, and definitely set the tone for Fuji cameras moving forward. It feels solid, modern, and capable.

Re: Xe3 or Xt20

As mentioned recently in another thread, I had same dilemma when upgrading. Went with the XT 20, basically for the tilt screen.

I did put up with not having one for awhile with the XE2, but definitely missed having it. (Had it on Nikon D5300 before that)

Other things like a D Pad and pop up flash sealed the deal.

I agree, I have both the X-T20 and X-T2. I love the 20 with primes and the IQ is the same, but there’s no question that the 2 is the better camera in every respect if size and weight aren’t a primary concern. If you can swing a used X-T2, it’s a fantastic camera.

Event, product photography and a bit of video .....

E3 is the best if you want a pocketable camera. BUT if you are expecting also some income - and really a more versatile camera to do all that is needed, you should try to find a X-H1

H1 does all that quite well - more like a pro camera

Exactly this. I've had both as well, still have xe3.

I prefer the handling on xe3 as the xt20 did feel a little cramped.

xe3 also has joystick and a bit smaller and lighter.

Only reason to get xt20 for me would be for the tilt screen.

get xe3 or xt2 imo
