Problems with EF 50mm f/1.2 L and Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.71x adapter?

Has anyone successfully used a Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.71x reducer with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L lens? On my M6 Mark II shooting stills, the AF hunts from near to infinity and never locks on. Shooting with MF works and the wide-open f/0.9 aperture is reported to the camera as f/1.0.

My EF-EOS M2 is running the latest 1.4 firmware. A related product, the EF-M2, looks like it was updated for compatibility with f/1.2 L primes with firmware 3.4 in November 2019.

I don't really want to have to spend four times the cost to get the Metabones adapter, but I might just have to if this Viltrox is a dead end.

It is reported that Viltrox answered that 50 1.2 and 85 1.2 do not work with their speedbooster.

It is interesting that the M43 version works with both lenses.

Oh, that's unfortunate. It looks like Viltrox has known about this incompatibility for over a year and has not resolved it.

The similar, albeit much more expensive, Metabones adapter has an interesting manner of dealing with fast lenses (i.e. faster than f/1.4). For these lenses, the Metabones displays the "pre-boost" aperture, but shoots with the "boosted" physical aperture. The 50/1.2 will show f/1.2 while physically shooting at f/0.9.
