Please recommend film simulation recipes from pros

I've recently tried a few of Kevin Mullins' custom film simulation recipes. I like Meyerowitz in particular (for portraits).

https://www.f16.click/blog/tips/fujifilm-jpeg-settings.html

Any of you have recommendations for a professional photographer's film sim recipe? Not a recipe that you have developed on your own, but a recipe that a pro has shared online. Please post only if you have actually tried the pro's recipe and can vouch for it.

Thanks.

I don't have to vouch for the recipes, just look at the sample photos and judge for yourself.

A few other sources of recipes you might consider-

https://onecameraonelens.com/fuji/

https://lifeunintended.com/articles/my-favorite-fujifilm-film-simulation-settings/

https://www.sharkandpalm.com/photography-tips/fuji-film-simulations-best-recipes-for-portraits-street-landscape-and-more

Can't vouch for all of them, but quite a few samples are included.  They also make good bases to tweak to your preference further if you'd like.

Thank you Meeces. This thread has really delivered. So many sims and so little room on my camera for the Custom settings. I wish Fujifilm would give us more than 7 custom settings.

If you don't have one of the newest cameras which let you save custom Auto WB shifts in each custom setting, I suggest you add it to the Custom Setting name, something like "Kodachrome 3R -3B". That will make it much easier to get the Recipe correct.

Almost all the film sims people shared so far on this thread are for JPEGs. Any film sims that I can use for RAW? I use CaptureOne.

I think this falls under the category of "I don't think that word means what you think it means."

RAW is "raw", just data, waiting to be interpreted and displayed.

SIMS are for output, either as OOC JPEGS, or on screen (as your RAW file is interpreted by your "RAW processor" - Lightroom, Capture One, etc.), or to create output JPEGS from your "RAW processor".

Capture One is full of them, and, as do many other "RAW processors", has many color controls that you can apply to modify your screen display or JPEG files for output.

So my question was basically asking about this part of what you wrote: "SIMS are for output,... to create output JPEGs from your RAW processor".

I was curious to see where I can get film sims that I can import or replicate in Capture One to produce various looks. Capture One has the standard film sims that Fuji provides in-camera (e.g. Astia and Provia), but I'm wondering if there are other ones.

Yes, RAW is just data waiting to be interpreted, but I am required to choose a film sim anyway in Capture One. I always go for Provia as the default, but I would love to experiment with other ones that pros have developed.

I hope my question is clearer now.

I use RNI film sims with Capture One: https://reallyniceimages.com/store.html

1Styles also do some: http://1styles.pro/

Both have some samples for free or you can buy sets.

I also use the Fuiju X Weekly recipes ... a lot!

Thanks.

I’m using Mullin’s Meyerowitz classic negative recipe. I turned off the clarity because it’s sometimes too much on textures and it slows the camera down significantly. I think I also increased the color a notch. But now it’s my consistent go to recipe for color. I found it on his YouTube channel.

for black and white I use the Acros recipe from Fuji Xweekly. It’s excellent.

The white balance and color shifts turn me off from most of Fujixweekly’s color recipes. It’s too much. I just want a single continuous look to my jpegs. With that being said, I did compile all his X-trans 4 recipes onto a note app on my phone, so I can change recipes whenever I’m out. It also made it much easier to put the recipes into X-Raw Studio where I have all the recipes and can preview how they would look with my style of photography. I’ll post in a separate comment.
