TG-6 wifi transfer to desktop (with wifi card) workable?

I am thinking of getting a TG-6 with the wifi logo on it and the manual talks about connecting to smart phones using wifi.  Well I don't have a smart phone but I do transfer all my photos to my desktop computer.  Currently I remove the memory chip from my worn out Canon using a card reader plugged into a USB port.  This means I've opened the door on the camera to remove the sd-card hundreds, perhaps thousands of times without breaking the door (yet).  The Canon does have a USB plug but it is USB1.0 tech and is very very slow.  Once on my pc, I sort, organize, rename, rotate, crop, etc, before uploading to the www.  I don't plan on sending photos directly from the camera to the web.

Would I be able to transfer photos directly from the TG-6 to the desktop using wifi?  My desktop does have a wifi card in it. Like I said above, the manual only talks about smart phone connectivity.

Why don't you connect the TG-6 with your computer with an USB(2) cable...fast enough and simple and you don't have to remove the SD card.

See page 93 in your manual.

Agree, the card reader method is a pain. There are 2 ways to transfer photos using the USB cable. The Storage method (which mimics an external drive) is a lot slower to mount and display the photos than the second method, the MTP method. (These selections show up on the camera screen when you connect the cable to the computer.) The MTP selection is much quicker and you don't have to unmount the camera to disconnect. It's the way to go!

To transfer photos from the camera via wifi, you need the Olympus application and that application is only made for mobile devices.

I use a card reader built into the computer.  WIFI is too flakey.

Peace.

There are two easy possibilities. First connect your camera to your PC:

Turn on WiFi on your TG-6 (and PC).

Connect your PC to the WiFi from TG-6 (SSID starts with TG-6). PW is displayed on the camera.

Now you have (at least two possibilities):

1) Open OM Workspace on your PC and chose "Import from camera via Wi-Fi" and all of your pictures will be there and you can save them on your computer.

2) Type 192.168.0.10 as adress in your browser and you will see all your pictures as thumbnails. Double-click on a piture and it opens and you can save it on your PC.
