XF 18-55 mm click noise at 18mm (when zooming in)

Hi,

A very clear Click sound can be heard when turning the zoom ring

I would like to know if this something common or if i should be worried

The lens came with a X-T1 i just bought second hand.

The noise can be heard on this little video

Thank you

Welcome to the forum Fxt1.

That's strange IMO. My copy produces no noise when zooming in and out.

Can you return the lens? I would not accept that. Of course this possibility depends on your conditions of purchase.

Should this be ruled out, you have three options IMO:

  1. Test the lens (decentering etc) and if there is no apparent impact on IQ, just live with it and hope it'll remain functional for a couple of years,
  2. Send the lens to Fuji repair,
  3. Disassemble on your own and try to figure out what it is and try to fix it. There is one forum member, yukosteel who is very skilled and publishes super interesting disassembly reports. Here it is: Disassembly – Fujinon XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 OIS lens

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.
I can't return it as i bought it from someone on a classifieds website.

The camera + the lens and some accessories for 280€, the camera has an invoice but not the lens which was bought later on.

I love the camera (my very first Fuji) and IQ appears to be fine so far

I asked thinking maybe this was a common issue with these lenses, so i think i'll stick with option #1 for now and keep playing with and discovering the x-t1.

I may try #3 after i get another lens

Thank you again for taking time to reply.

Yes, indeed

My 16-50 had the very same-sounding click near 60mm. It was also badly de-centered at that "clicky" end focal length. Double edges appeared on objects near the left edge. I returned it to the store for a refund, and got no argument. A shame you're experiencing that with such a great lens. I hope you won't be discouraged from trying another copy. They can be found for nearly half off the very high full retail. I bought mine in new condition  gray market with a one-year seller warranty, for $399 U.S.  Worth every cent.

Re: Yes, indeed

Hi,

Given the low price of the package, i was expecting some things to be not perfect so I won't be discouraged by this
I'm really excited to discover the mirrorless side of things with Fuji

I didn't know anything about their cameras, lenses and the way they do things

From the videos, presentations and reviews i read, it encourages me to keep discovering their line of products and upgrade my gear little by little

Thank you for sharing your experience
