October in Tennessee – Falling Leaves & Raging Waters
18

Last Friday, I took one last stab at capturing some fall colour at Tennessee's Rock Island. The park's reservoir was filled to the brim from a rainy week, and the park's open spillways sent the Caney river into a muddy, churning fury. A beautiful day to have a Fuji tethered to my wrist.

All photos taken with the X-T2 + 16-55, 55-200, or 35mm 1.4.

Working on some new editing techniques – dodging shadows, split toning, color shifts, etc. Critiques welcome! Just be nice. I'm learning

This is my favorite. I love the light, texture, and dimension.

Thanks!

Out of ten thousand fallen leaves, that was 'the one'.

Impressive. I will be going up there in a few weeks to check out the area, never been... looks gorgeous. Maybe some fall leaves will still be there but it's ok if not.

All great!  Particularly enjoyed the bridge and the railroad track trestle photos.

Thank you! It's really nice, kinda odd because there's a large hydroelectric plant in the center (hence the dam and the raging waters, haha) but it's mostly quiet and the area is gorgeous!

Thanks, Tony!

I was told the trestle would also look good in black & white, but I liked the color in it... who knows

One more from Twin Falls – re-edited this version after posting, as the first batch was far too dark.

I know you were probably trying to slow down the shutter, but using ISO 100  ( a +1 stop exposure compensation equivalent) is probably why you clipped the highlights in this one (which is otherwise very nice).

You got me! I need an ND to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

I ran into a similar situation a little while ago; ISO 100 and white water don't mix very well. An ND filter (3 stops for an overcast day or 6 stops for a sunny day will allow you to to use ISO 200 and much more reasonable aperture setting away from a diffraction area...
