Re: How can a long focal be a cons?

I mean, that's the lens you are picking and paying for- that focal length. I don't understand that as a cons. (or a Pro for that matter).

It's like saying "I need a car. I bought a car. Cons: has four wheels".. Well really?

As the old saying went about the Missouri river: "It's too thick to drink and too thin to plow".
So it is with this lens: it's a desirable lens as it's sharp, it is bright, it is nicely built, fast focusing and not overly expensive but the focal length means it's often a bit too long for portraits and a bit too short for sports. Very nice for street photography though :D.
Most people I know that have this lens (me included) are a bit unhappy with the focal length and wished it was either a 65mm or a 100mm while keeping the rest of the attributes.

They bought it as there isn't any other real "fast, small and acceptably priced" fast short-telephoto available in the m43rds line-up but they find out that they need to work around the focal length more often then not.

I hold the truth... A very specific, based on my experience and only relevant to me truth, but the truth nonetheless!

I bought this lens because it has the perfect focal length for capturing family pictures on holiday without being noticed. It is a bit slower than a wide angle lens when focussing which is understandable considering its depth of field - maybe a pdaf camera would help here.

Now with Covid this lens helps me keep the recommended distance.

Nice.

I did this with mine.

Agree that 150mm equiv is definitely not a usual FL for primes. For normal enthusiasts, I think this is one of the lesser used FL.

When I wanted to purchase my "bokeh master", I contemplated of either going with this or the Sigma 56mm. Suffice to say, I went with the latter and never regretted it. Much more flexible and still get great amount of subject separation.

I am a big fan of this lens, particularly for video. I do a lot of documentary, interview-style video, and this lens is just perfect for those tighter head shots from a slight angle. I also find that the FL, while in some ways challenging, also produces face images that are more true to life than other focal lengths. Besides the usual suspect subjects, I find it to be outstanding for flowers as well. Finally, I got an old oly macro converter on ebay and also use it as a macro lens.

The 75mm 1.8 Oly is probably my favourite lense. It doesn’t get used as much as my other lenses, but it’s never left at home when I’m out taking pics.

One of those lenses that you frame your shots with your feet. 😀
