G7X mark III image review lag
1

Even in low-res mode (and no RAW, and fully automatic, and single shot drive mode), after taking a shot I am experiencing the G7X mark III failing to begin displaying image review for nearly 1 second.  (The LCD doesn't go blank during that gap; it just continues to act as a viewfinder.)  Comparing this to G7X mark II and also G9X, both those models instantly begin displaying image review as soon as the image is captured. I thought it might have to do with the Image Review duration setting, but that has no effect.  Is there some other setting that should affect this?  Or is this a problem of firmware v1.2?  Or is this supposed to be an "improvement" over earlier models??

I don't have this camera ... looking to buy it by XMAS ... I think you answered your own questions - shoot in P mode ... RAW/JPEg and you should be okay . (Or Manual Mode)

Post some pictures when you can - I am interested in this camera :)))

I've tried many different settings changes and I can't effect an immediate display of image review; there is always some lag.

I now have also gone and checked out a store display model. That one, also on firmware v1.2, behaves the same way. Then I also tried a Canon SX740 sitting next to it, and it acted the same way. Neither had memory cards, but you'd think if anything that that would only reduce the lag.

So, I am getting the impression that this is endemic to the latest Canon devices and firmware.

In addition, I think there may be a related lag problem seen in another 2019 Canon, discussed in this thread:

What are other people experiencing with recent Canons?

(And is there any reason to think this would be considered an upgrade in some weird way?)

After a year to this thread, I have just purchased the G7x mark III with firmware v1.2.  Very frustrated that the same issue is on my DC no matter what setting I used.  I've been using the G7x mark I for 5 years+ and only purchased the mark III after I accidentally dropped my mark I to the water.  So disappointed for my new purchase.  Anyone with solution on the issue?

I fully understand your frustration.  I bought a G5x mark 2 after I accidentally broke the G7x mark 2.  I also thought this is something to do with setting.  But after trying all the settings and testing on other cameras I came to believe it is a feature of the latest model.

It really slows down the operation... I dislike it so much that I ended up selling the G5x mark 2 (another reason is that the pop-up viewfinder is very clunky).

Don't be too hasty. I just tested my G4 X-II in P mode, including JPG, RAW, and both together. I press the shutter button, hear the shutter click, see a brief black screen during capture (est,. 1/10 second), then the image preview. It seems like you've got something in your settings that I don't, but I do not see the delay the two of you described at all. Have you tried a full reset to factory settings?

I had my G7 x mark I for 5+ years, it worked perfectly fine before I accidentally dropped my DC to the water.
My friend bought a G7 x mark III before I dropped my DC and i already spotted the review lag by that time.  I've complained since the review lag was so obvious between the mark I and mark III.  I told my friend he might have bought a defective camera, and since I couldn't find a another DC with similar spec and reasonable price in the market, I told myself I would take my chance and get the mark III, and now I regret.
Anyone has used the mark I and mark III would definitely feel lag, and for sure it's not related to the setting.

It seems the Dpreview's review didn't pick up this nuisance.

One second is too long to wait ?
Perhaps a faster SD card would help if one second is too long.

Typical Canon issue. Had it on my M6.

And yes, 1 second is too long, or do you only shoot snails?

Turn off image review.  it's a camera, to take pictures with, not to look at the photos you just took.
