Compiled from 120 two-minute exposure, Skywatcher Esprit 100mm refract

or, Skywatcher EQ8 mount, ASI071MCPro. Captured with SharpCap and processed with PixInsight and Photoshop.

First time it really strikes me as a cat's paw

Why do you ask?

Well, I had wrong info. I thought that sharpcap was a polar alignment tool that was used in conjunction with SGP. I knew it could not be used with a DSLR so I did not delve any deeper ... Didn't know you could use it as your main camera control/session control tool.

Just looked it up. I was wrong.

This is not true - if there is an ASCOM driver for your camera, SharpCap wil interface to it. There is just no native SharpCap DSLR support:

You're right. Should have added "natively". I answer too fast

I did set up Ascom on my PC two years ago and got SGP & plate solving working. Too many things piled up (IMHO). I use my PC for too many things (and I want the rest to be stable) and I felt that the advantages were not clear enough in my case. So I stuck with good old BEOS: simple, light, easy, never crashed.

Anyway, thanks to you, I'll keep an eye on Sharpcap in case I decide to change my SW configuration
