Old lens on SL2...

My son-in-law has an EOS 20D with the original EF 75-300mm zoom.

Will this lens work on his daughter's Rebel SL2?  Autofocus and exposure?

I cannot find this info anywhere probably because the camera/lens combination is so out-of-date.  I have tried to convince him to get an 80D or 90D and the latest version of the lens...but noooo!

Re: Old lens on SL2...

I had that lens before I sold it for almost nothing to a friend but I do not see why it would not work on a newer camera. However, there has been reports on this forum, if my memory serves me well, that some older lens would not work with newer cameras but the one I remember about was with older third party lens (like Sigma or Tamron, not sure which).

The Canon 75-300 mm was however a good starter zoom and sometimes I wish I would have kept it despite being a slow lens. It was doing a good job on squirrels and other stationary animals (but not birds in flight).

Regards,
There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.

In my opinion, he should purchase more up-to-date lenses. But if he is stubborn about using the old lens, then I wish him good luck. Sometimes we have to see for ourselves. But I doubt he will like it. What is going to be used for focal lengths less than 75mm?

All EF cameras are compatible with older Canon EF lenses.  I used the old 28-90mm and 70-300mm (not the 75-300) on the 70D and worked fine.  The same cannot be said for old third party EF lenses though.

Almost certainly yes.  I have an early version of the 75-300, at least ten years older than the 80D model.  I also have a Rebel SL2.  I've mounted the lens and tested to see if it works and it does.  That being said, there are multiple versions of this lens and mine working is not an ironclad guarantee that your SIL's lens will.  But probably.
