cropped to about 6000mm, I wonder if 6000mm digital directly from the camera would give the same result

although its always better to have a bigger resolution and then crop

Thanks John.

I think a proper, rich light can make wonders. Here is such an example. And with a tiny, tiny sensor.

Looks good Avian.

Seems the sensor in this P950 is quite clean in good light.

I don't miss my FZ80. Good for what it was for, but this P950 is a step up (most areas).

Was this from RAW, SOOC jpeg or edited jpeg?

Thanks

Thanks ANAYV.

I found out that Raw setting (almost) always give me a (lil') bit more from the shot. So I have it permanently on.

Nice. For me I like close up shots so I crop some shots. This one is really sharp.

Thanks Thomas166.

Looks like I got a good copy. Everything functions fine except the zoom barrel transport which grinds from 1400-2000m and backward.

Your cropped bird has good detail in it. I've tried cropping some of my P950 photos and have been surprised at how well the smaller and expanded areas hold up. Here's one that I cropped heavily, to get rid of unwanted objects. You can see larger images and some EXIF info by going to my Flickr album, linked below and clicking on the down arrow below each photo on the lower, right side.

Agreed. If image has been captured in good quality light, even heavy cropping come out well. For such FL, results are very good.

What do you mean by Raw setting? I assume you mean that you process the .NRW file.  Is that correct?

I find the largest difference between the NRW and the camera's JPG (even when NR is set to low) is the loss of low-contrast details (smearing). A program such as DXO will retain the details while even while removing noise.

Re: P950 - How much cropping it allows

It has meant that I have Image quality set to Raw.

With the Raw dialed-in, the smearing is much less present.

Lookin' good - I like your presentation!  I've been cropping to 3:2 or 16:9 depending on the shot.  Wish we could change the ratio in camera during trimming(cropping) during  playback.
