Does it make you wonder why the camera would give you different exposures almost a stop different for the same subject in the same light?

Mine does the same when shooting in matrix metering. That honeycomb matrix metering never worked well and produced erratic exposures at best. 
Center weighted is more consistent, and spot is always spot on.
