D800E + Helios 44-m-4 + Autumn =
5

An 'old' DSLR, an even older MF lens plus autumn in The Netherlands:

Wet, oily mushroom shining in the dimmed light.

Big + small together

looks like a pair of fried eggs... ☺

Big red amongst the green...

A little frog hiding amongst the decaying leaves

All shot with a MF Helios 58mm 44-m-4 lens .

Hello Captain,

Lovely - I could damned nearly smell the decay, Alistair.

Nice set, especially the frog.

I think the original designers of the old lenses would be very pleased to see what good results they are giving on digital cameras.

Thank you.

I was just photographing some mushrooms and heard some rustle behind me; and there it was; the little fellow.

Sure thing.

So what is it then? Does only expensive equipment produce nice images, or maybe the one behind the viewfinder has also something to do with it?

And/Or can old inexpensive glass also do the job?

Thanks for the photos.  Mushroom are still such an unknown and so many species.  I nearly always take pictures of them when they come up.

very atmospheric.

(shame about the focus in the first one falling mostly on the third mushroom. the second photo is super...) is /5.6 the best aperture for this lens? just curious. nice one.
