Re: EOS M50 Firmware Update - Canon Connect app more reliable now?

I tested the NFC connection an it works on my Android 10 phone. Great

when i tested the autofocus thing i didn't see anything different .

Question: Does this mean the new update plays nice with the crappy Canon Connect app? In other words, the Canon Connect app now works reliably with this new update? Or that the Canon Connect app is no longer necessary cuz we can now use NFC connection instead? I got so extremely frustrated with the Canon Connect app early on last year that I totally gave up using it.

Can someone provide me the link for the firmware update please?

o

I'm using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth low energy for connecting the M50 to my samsung s9 and it always connect and works .

Try the location on setting for the smartphone , it sometimes helps

Have you tried the (Bluetooth) always stay connected..

When the Bluetooth always on is enabled the Wi-Fi turns off after use, and I'm surprised how little this ( always on) affect the battery life.

Re: EOS M50 Firmware Update, Version 1.1.0

I believe it was a waste of time.
canon should try harder if he wants to stay in the competition. I bought m50 a few weeks ago and I am really disappointed with features that can easily be added to it by an easy firmware update. tbh if canon doesn't address these issues that I mention with a firmware update I will go for sony for my next camera purchase.

1. 4k 30 frames per second is not there. I know it uses canons Digic 8 processor as in Canon G7 X Mark III and Canon G5 X Mark II 90D R and RP. so I think it should be able to hit that 30fps in 4k with an easy firmware update. I believe there are no technical barriers and it is held back so its bigger brothers can shine. autofocus with eye detection should work in this camera in movie mode as well.
2. a clean HDMI output. this one gets me really disappointed when I find out it only output display into one monitor at a time and not only it turns its own display when you are using an external display or capture card but also it is not a clean HDMI output and there are some setting overlays in image
3.even though I barely shoot videos outside I wish I could have seen my audio levels so it saves me a lot of time troubleshooting and editing my videos
4.this 1.7 crop factor in 4k is driving me nuts why?? why it is there?

personally, ease of use and more features are as important as technical specs.
on paper, m50 is absolutely a flagship killer camera with a lower price but in action, it is  just a mediocre camera with nerfed features which is hyped a lot for no reason

What does NFC do?  Is it just for file transfer or can you control the camera ala Canon Connect?

4K 30 frames pr second would have been nice to have especially if you are in a 30 fps timeline but I use a 24fps timeline so it's not a big issue for me. I think 4k 30 fps would have been possible but the battery life would have been shorter and maybe some overheating issue due to the slow read out of the sensor.

This slow 4K read out will give some rolling shutter too so fast panning have to be avoided.

And only contrast-based AF in 4K

It's not perfect but if canon had put a newer sensor in the M50 the price would be higher and then I would probably go for an other camera.

2. a clean HDMI output. this one gets me really disappointed when I find out it only output display into one monitor at a time and not only it turns its own display when you are using an external display or capture card but also it is not a clean HDMI output and there are some setting overlays in image

Yes a clean HDMI output and audio levels in live view should have been included in this new firmware update.

4.this 1.7 crop factor in 4k is driving me nuts why?? why it is there?

The 4K is real 3840x2160 pixels and no binning or line skipping when processed and the output looks fine to me ,,,I sometimes use 4K for wildlife so I can get closer

The full HD1080p and the pictures out of the M50 looks great and

If I didn't already had a M50 i would probably be getting one now because the low price.

the NFC starts the Wi-Fi connection on the camera and the camera connect app can be used. File transfer works too.

I like the (Bluetooth) always stay connected better…

Does the m50 mk ii firmware work with the m50? Has anyone tried that?

I highly doubt it and wouldn't recommend trying. Best case you get an error message, worst case you brick the camera. Probably would void the warranty too.
