In the US, the minimum charge to do anything on my em1m2 was $330. Perhaps you will face the same type of minimum. Of course, you still have an old camera after the repair that may not be worth much more than the minimum charge.

If possible, I'd explore getting a second unit used rather than doing some preventative repair on the one you have.

After all of these logical suggestions, it's becoming clear that it might be best just to roll with it until I can't. Have other great cameras but need to get this EM1 out of my system and if the cost is limited to acquisition used, best to stop there without giving too much money away.

Given that you already have an E-M5II and EM-10II which were released in 2015, I wonder if you are really going to see much improvement in the E-M1 which was released in 2013.

Mostly the phase detection, I think.

The dynamic range of the E-M5II and EM-10II us actually slightly better than that of the E-M1.

I think your money would be better spent on the more reliable E-M1 II whichwas released in 2016 and has a better sensor than all of the above which brings a noticeable increase of dynamic range. The E-M II also bringse the high resolution mode and improvement in autofocus.

A solid suggestion. I didn't gel with the fully-articulated screen when I had the EM5 II. Great camera, but my fingers felt cramped and actually fatigue over excursions with lenses that weigh over 300g. The other less-pronounced reason is that the EM1 was as heft as I wanted to go. It's not as big as the EM1 II, which is a classic in its own right.

The size of the E-M1 and E-M1 II are very similar

Height -  E-M1.1: 93.5mm E-M1.2: 90.9mm -->E-M1.2 fits in a bag slightly easier as height is often the limiting factor.

Width -  E-M1.1: 130.4mm E-M1.2: 134.1mm --> E-M1.2 is 3mm wider. Don't care??

Depth -  E-M1.1: 63.1mm E-M1.2: 68.9mm --> E-M1.2 has a 6mm deeper grip. Bag fit likely not affected as the grip extends in the same direction as the lens.

Weight: E-M1.1: 497g E-M1.2: 574g E-M1.2  weighs 75g more, barely noticeable IMO.  About 25g is attributable to the much larger battery.

I find the EM1.2 bigger and heavier than the EM1.1.  It doesn’t stop me carrying the EM1.2 and the bigger battery is a good thing.  You are right that it fits in the bag just as easily.

A 675g camera and 1kg lens is about my limit.

I loved the EM1.1 but the EM1.2 is a much better camera.  There is a surprising increase in IQ with the same lenses and the functionality is much improved.

Something about the M1ii contours, perhaps mainly the grip shape and shutter release placement, gave an immediate improvement over the original M1. Obviously a personal and not universal experience, but I should think everybody would agree that the newer model is much more refined and responsive in use.

Somewhere in town, a delivery truck is wandering around with my E-M1iii. I'll soon get to compare the three at once. And it's not even my birthday.

Cheers,

Rick

Yah. I've been dithering about buying the E-M1-iii or some other thing

The last price cut shook me off the fence on which I'd been sitting. Mostly for HHHR but also the collective improvements and additions. I'm sure it will make my current lenses happier, too.

Just wanted to thank everyone again for their input. I just got a pretty much mint condition EM1 with a shutter count of 6600, slight wear on one of the bottom plate nubs, and a few nearly undetectable scratches on the LCD. It handles better than any of it's brethren or PEN stablemates that I've used so far. Can't wait to dive in and have adopted the "if it ain't broke..." mentality to just focus on taking pictures.
