Who would buy a 27mm 1.4 or 1.2 ?
3

Now that the 18mm 1.4 is coming, should they start working on 27mm? For when the 35 is too narrow and the 23 is too wide? This is the very useful 42mm ff eq. that many use. There is a 27 2.8 but that's a different a different animal.

So, would you buy a 27 1.4 or 1.2 if it was available? Say the 1.4 would be somewhere between the 23 and 35 size and the 1.2 the size of a 16 1.4

I'd use a 27 2.8 AND the 27 1.4 (I'd swap my 35 1.4 for the 27, assuming it was good.)

For some reason, APS-C doesn't get much 40mm love... it's got some cracking lenses in FF world though... like

Sigma 40mm 1.4 Art, Zeiss Batis 40mm F2, Voigtlander comes in 2/1.4/1.2 flavors, leica 40mm f2, the old Minolta 40mm f2 rokkor... and probably some more.

That being said...there's a more important focal length that Fuji is missing entirely...the 100/105!

So I'd rather have a 70mm 1.4.

40mm equivalent is one of my very favorite fields of view, and any lens that offers it is going to tempt me a lot. I have never had a fast 40, but I'm sure I would like one. An f/1.2 would be overkill for me in terms of size/weight and price, but a f/1.4 would be interesting.

Right now, I'm just hoping the 27mm pancake mark 2 has an aperture ring. There's a nice X-T10 waiting eagerly for it.

27mm 1.4 would be the sweetspot for a wide/environmental portraits lens.

Sometimes 23mm is too wide and 33/35 too narrow.

For those who do sessions (paid or not) with strangers, are you using longer focal lenghts with the pandemic?

I would honestly like a 30mm and a 39mm for a 45mm and 58mm equivalent.  Hopefully Sigma takes care of the 30mm for me in the future.  I miss my Nikon 58mm 1.4G... but I do not expect Fuji to make me something similar.

I would absolutely love a fast 27mm. The 40-45mm range is perfect and would replace my 35/50. Come to think of it, that's reason enough for companies to not make them.

I vote for 27 1.4 as long as not (much) bigger than existing 35 1.4

I think mirrorless cameras are missing very good and reasonably bright 28 and 40mm equivalent lenses. Yes, I'd be interested into a 27mm f/1,4 but depending on the cost, most people will probably stick with the 35mm f/1,4.

HI,

I didn't vote.  I use the 27mm now and would happily consider a slightly larger lens, but I would prefer a crackingly good  f2.  With top optics and an aperture ring.

I'll take an interest in the new 18mm and, IF I buy one, I get that it would make the 27mm FL a nicer step compared to the 23mm or 35mm.  I would consider an f1.4, but I'd skip an f1.2 - it's a speed and expense overkill for me.   I'm into landscape, nature and travel - for me cross frame sharpness, low CAs and flare resistance are my key interests.

And I'm with whoever said they'd give higher priority to a 70mm lens.  Again, for me, an f2.  A 70/1.4 would be as big as the 90/2. No thanks.

Cheers Rod

I'm probably going to get something in the close to 30mm range.  Need a fast aperture for subject separation.

Sigma with adapter yet anything close to 30mm will do it for me.

Re: Who would buy a 27mm 1.4 or 1.2 ?

40mm (full frame equivalent) is my favorite focal length.  I don't own the Fujifilm 27/2.8, but I have gone through several manual focus options, including the Voigtlander 28/2 Ultron and the Kamlan 28/1.4.  My current solution is the Voigtlander 40/2 Ultron SL (Nikon mount) adapted with a Speedbooster.  I would love a faster autofocus option.  Size is not really an issue with me.

Re: Who would buy a 27mm 1.4 or 1.2 ?

It's a great question! I really like 27-28mm, much more than 23 or 35mm as a general-purpose prime. After the announcement of the 18/1.4 there's a glaring gap at 27mm among the fast primes.

But... I answered "no". The Kamlan 28/1.4 is as big as I'd like a walk-around lens to be, and that's with no AF, low magnification, and weak-ish IQ wide-open. So I'd expect a better lens by Fuji, with AF, to be even bigger and come with a $1000 tag.

I think I would prefer a 27/2, with good IQ (the current 27/2.8 and 18/2 are perfectly good by my standards) and short MFD, to provide 1:4 or so. If it sold for $600, I'd happily snipe a used one for $400 a couple of years later

Re: Who would buy a 27mm 1.4 or 1.2 ?

I selected the 27mm 1.4 - I use an adapted Nikon 28mm F2.8 on my Fuji and love the range.
I'm not in the market for that as I also own the Fuji 23 & 35 F1.4 and at this point, the 18mm F1.4 would be it for me.
However, if I was without any of them, or came into some disposable cash,  I fast 27mm that is relatively compact would be a appealing - so maybe even a 1.8 /F2

I would be interesting in adding a 27 f2 with a aperture ring especially if it is a compact lens.

Re: Who would buy a 27mm 1.4 or 1.2 ?

27mm 2.8 was the first XF lens I bought and I like the focal length.

I went 35 1.4 and often find it too tight.

I bought 23 1.4 and like the field of view but it lacks some subject separation.

So yes I'd be interested in a fast 27/28. But a 30 or 32 would be interesting too. Just no more 35's. Also FWIW I do own the Kamlan 27 1.4 but don't like it for photography, I only use it occasionally for video. I think that's more to do with the build and look of it on the camera but I need a fun lens to justify MF.
