Olympus 14-150 mk i vs mk ii

Hi,

I would like to have an all-in-one lens for my e+m5 iii and I came across to the first version of 14-150 at good price.

How does it compare with the new 14-150 ii or panasonic 14-140?

Thank you for your advices

Piero

The 14-150 II added weather sealing and made some appearance changes, but the optics are the same.

In my opinion, the Panasonic 14-140 lenses are slightly better, but also often cost more.

(I would skip the original Panasonic 14-140 with the f5.8 aperture, it's a good lens but really heavy compared to the others. )

Not sure what Adam is talking about but the Olympus 14-150 mm Mark I is identical to the Mark II except it is not waterproof. They also claimed they slightly improved the lens coating on the Mark II but I can't see any difference between the two models nor in the images shot.

I've owned one copy of the MKI and three copies of the MKII.  I could see no great difference in any of them.  It's a good general purpose lens IMHO. The reason I've owned so many copies is that I've given two of them to my grandkids along with cameras I don't use anymore.  I currently have one on my old EM1MK1 as a lightweight travel companion.  With that I also have an Oly 45 1.8.  The camera with the 14x150 fits in an old LowePro TLZ-1 camera case/bag I have and the tiny 45 1.8 fits in the pocket on the front.  Makes a very light and versatile travel kit.

I have both and I can't tell the difference in the results on an A3 print. 90% of my images have been taken using them.

This will always bother me.

They made the effort to weather-seal an old lens, added no real cost to the product and it ended up being a popular move with m43 users.

Yet they have a series of small primes begging to get the same treatment (12, 17, 25, 45, 75mm), probably easier to weather-seal too (no extending barrel) but won't bother (Olympus) and most likely never will (JIL).

They have some of the best weather sealing on their cameras but leave a big gaping hole in their lens lineup.
