Which X-E4 / X-R10 fan are you?
2

What do you WANT from the spring 2021 camera?

(Given the production cycle, and this being just five months or so away, I'm betting the design is already settled. So this is just for fun. Nonetheless, this isn't a question of what you EXPECT. It's a question of your desires.)

Let's take as a given the classic exposure dials - something I think we all want. Elaborate on your specifics in the comments. And start another poll if this one doesn't suffice

Cheapest possible price / smallest possible body. Just add the most basic things (newest sensor, tilt screen). In line with the X-T30

In line with the X-S10 - a mid-range RF camera with modern, popular features like IBIS and great video.

A mid-range RF camera, no worse than the X-S10 or X-T30, plus my specific feature request(s) [better/great EVF, WR, other special functions..]

Make the perfect rangefinder-style Fuji X camera: an X-Pro3 without the OVF, maybe minus a couple "Pro" features (size, dual card slots). Charge whatever necessary

No more fixed screens

My preferences for screen type on the next (or any) camera:

1. X-T100 style: Tilt up, tilt down, tilt left for vertical shots, tilt left to face forward

2. X-T3 style: Tilt up, tilt down, tilt right for vertical shots

3. a6600/RX100 style: Tilt up, tilt down, tilt up to face forward

4. Pentax stye: Articulate any direction, but remain behind the lens

5. X-T100V style: Tilt up, tilt down.

6. X-Pro3 style: Tilt down to face up. Face in to protect.

7. X-A7 style: Flip out, twist around to face up, down or forward. Face in to protect.

8. X-E3 style: Fixed

I guess this release has fewer “fans” than I hoped. Or the poll was unsuccessful for other reasons. I’m still curious how this camera shakes out

My wish is number 3.

Reality is probably gonna be 1.

XE4 with tilt screen and WR...can leave the IBIS to the bigger, no dial, XS10 for the midrange.

Re: Which X-E4 / X-R10 fan are you?

I have xe3.

For me xe4 needs to have IBIS, better EVF, tilt screen, same af and sensor as xs10, remain as compact and light as possible.

Dont care about dials, both are easy to use.

#2 most likely, not #1

I also want more, but I think #2 is most likely. Given Fuji considered canceling this line, I doubt they’d bother making this just for the diehard “small camera only” fans.

I think they’ll include IBIS, given it’s their latest toy and all the rage, and scrimp on other features instead of they want to keep price down.

I picked up an X-E3 this week and I really like it.
If the X-E4 has a screen you can fold inwards and just use the EVF, like an Olympus PEN-F or Sony A7C, I'll upgrade no matter what the other specs are.
Image stabilisation would be nice though. Olympus has been putting it in even their cheapest cameras for five+ years.

As a owner of a X-E3 I would upgrade (keeping both bodies) if X-E4 has...

  • Under €/$ 1,000 price tag
  • Non-fixed screen
  • IBIS
  • Keep it under 350 gr.

Would be nice, but don't think we will see it:

  • WR
  • Bigger EVF eyecup (wish!) and good refresh rate
  • New 32-ish mpix sensor
  • Longer 4K and FHD recording times

Too late to have any influence on reality but this survey shows most enthusiast are looking towards a higher specification than found on  XS10.  I remember there was quite a bit of disappointment when XE3 was released as it was a bit dumbed down from the popular XE2 -smaller EVF, no flash etc. Now is their chance to correct that and get back on track-fingers crossed!

Just the XE2 sized EVF, that is all.

Just a bigger EVF like the XE2. Nothing more will be required for me. It will come with the latest sensor with the juicy JPG options. That's all I need. A slightly better grip would be nice, maybe just stickier rubber would be enough.

If it comes with IBIS, WR, flip screen then none of that will matter if the EVF doesn't go back to XE2 size.

FAS on X-E4?

This is the first time I've ever seen an explicit preference for the fully articulating screen type on a rangefinder-style body. I have to take issue with this, and ask: WHY?

As a fan of rangefinder-style bodies, the PEN-F, GX8 and A7C are ruined by this flip-out screen style, which doesn't fit the retro street-shooting sensibilities at all. The X100V, GX9, a6600 and X-Pro3 make much more sense for this body type, so that the screen can face upward from behind the body, maintaining the compactness and keeping the eye behind the lens.

If the desire is to protect the lens, why not just get a screen protector? They're cheap and abundant, and do the job easily. If the desire is to hide/disable the screen, why not just turn it off and program EVF only? Problem solved, no?

The only problem a FAS addresses is (video) selfies, aka vlogging. If this is the reason, I can understand. But even the X-T100, a6600 and SH1 address this need without compromising the principles I stated earlier.

The swivel screen makes some more sense on typical SLR-style bodies because the EVF usually protrudes quite a bit over the LCD; flipping it out from under that larger eye-piece can be helpful, I imagine. But on rangefinder-style bodies, there is no need for this.

So I'm curious why the preference for this type of screen.

Image stabilisation would be nice though. Olympus has been putting it in even their cheapest cameras for five+ years.

I do agree about IBIS.
