X-T4 Aperture won't change with aperture ring in Movie Mode

For some reason, when I'm in movie mode on my X-T4, the aperture ring won't adjust the aperture. Nothing at all changes when I turn the ring. It works in Stills mode and with multiple lenses but the only way I could adjust it in Movie mode was to add aperture to the command dial. I've looked around the settings and can't seem to pinpoint why this is happening.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have an X T4, but have never used movie mode on it, or any camera for that matter, so no. Only have shot video on a few occasions using a camcorder or cell phone. But I'll see what you find as the solution, and keep it in mind, should ever do so.

Page 262 of the manual specifies that if MOVIE OPTIMIZED CONTROL is enabled, you can't change the Aperture by the ring, only the command dial: Manual

I rarely use video with my xt4, just because this thread I'm trying change my aperture from the lens aperture ring while shooting. There's no problem with mine.

I believe it's related to the answer from someone in this thread about movie optimize control switch off

Hi! I had the same issue with xs10. I fixed it by going to the movie menu all the way down to "movie optimized control" and turn it off.

I hope it works for you too

I hope you already found your answer but just in case:

switch off the "movie optimized control" from menu>movie setting>movie optimized control.

when it's "ON" it disable the ISO/shutterspeed/aperture dials so it won't be affected by your still settings when you switch to movie, something like that..

I had the same problem, you just need to go to Movie Settings and change Movie Optimized Control to OFF.

Re: X-T4 Aperture won't change with aperture ring in Movie Mode

I just had this happen today while shooting a video for work (so embarrassing I had to fiddle with the camera before just using the onscreen option). I'm home now and did some fiddling with the camera and under the Movie Settings there's a dumb dumb dumb option called Movie optimized control where it disables the ability to change aperture from the lens dial. Just turn that off and you're good. I have no idea how it got turned on.

Anyway TL:DR - Movie Optimized Control in Movie Settings. Make sure it's off.

Hope this helps someone frantically searching for answers in the future.
