Wish list for the next camera (2021 spring release)
11

With the rumors swelling for the X-S10, I'm ready to anticipate the camera after that, since the X-S10 is opposite to what I want in many ways.

I'm happy to start with an X-E4 as my baseline wish.

1. Rangefinder style (flat top design, corner EVF, no OVF necessary)

2. Manual dials (Shutter speed, exposure comp, ISO less necessary, but would be nice). Along with front and rear control dials, please, for optimum customization, like the X100V

3. Tilting screen (the two-axis version on the X-T3, for waist-level horizontal shooting, AND low vertical shooting. It's never appeared on an RF design! It's time.

4. IBIS. So I can use the 35 f2 at long shutter speeds, and for smooth video. DIS should also be included.

5. USB-C charging (and modern features generally. I do expect the latest sensor/processor). Please don't needlessly cripple it!

These are my five humble demands, along with solid construction overall: good port doors, magnesium alloy, etc. Ideally WR but not mandatory (as this would encroach perhaps too much on the X-P3 and X100V). But still well-built as a mid-range camera. I won't complain about the EVF or LCD dots per inch, the AF, the same 26mp sensor, the lack of a D-pad or anything else. Just ensure these five things.

Frankly, I cannot imagine what else Fuji could choose to release instead of this. An X-T40 would feel so redundant after these last other releases, as would an X-H2. Give us a perfect X-E4 (or name it anything else)!

Tilt screen
2

I'm quite tired of all these "vlogger-friendly" cameras (and I say so as someone who also presents video to camera! We have HDMI and USB-C for this...). And it's crazy that zero RF-styled cameras have featured a tilt-screen for vertical shooting. EVER. Not even the GFX50R, while the other med format bodies have it.. I went with Panasonic last time for this reason, over the X-E3, and even considered Sony's A6400.

Re: Tilt screen

I am tired of these vlogging efforts as well - I like your XE4 spec sheet -that is the next one I wish for though the XE3 is still going strong.

I like your spec sheet, but swap the ibis for wr. The ibis can stay in the s version for video and differentiate the two.

the xe4 can be a minimalist well built rangefinder camera to go with the small wr primes.

X100VM Monochrome

I would love to see a monochrome only X100VM.

Yup. Simple as what you said. It will sell well.

To add some personal wishes:

1: A little bit larger than XE3 body but smaller than the current X-pro body with a left customizable dial at the edge like the M. Also a little more well-built to feel good when holding.  I think the new XE body will need to be larger than the current XE3 to fit the IBIS and heat dissipation system anyway.

2. UP the EVF resolution and magnification. A great EVF is one of the most important elements for us to enjoy the experience. Quality EVFs are missing in the mid-level bodies.

X-E4 rumor “announced”
1

https://www.fujirumors.com/breaking-fujifilm-x-e4-coming-in-first-quarter-2021/
First legit rumblings have begun for the next midrange camera for Q1 2021, and it is indeed the X-E4.

If this rumor is to be trusted (and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be - practically feels like an arm of modern PR), we should easily expect:

- rangefinder-styled flat top camera

- EVF in left corner, no OVF

- classic/retro exposure dials

So the big questions will be:

- IBIS? I’ll be disappointed if they can’t fit *something* in there

- screen articulation. I really hope it tilts on two hinges, not flips!

- WR. I’m not holding my breath for this one.

let’s see..
