As someone who has owned a X70 and now a XF10, I can hopefully give you some help. I feel the XF10 is aimed at someone wanting to have as simple a camera as possible. Such as upgraders from mobile phones. Whilst the X70 has more features, the XF10 can be programmed to the users taste. The image quality on the XF10 is excellent. I was worried about the reviews of the auto focus but have not found them to be accurate. The auto focus isnt lightning fast, but quick enough. I have taken pictures of my 2 children, both under 12, playing football and the camera had no problems. I think the auto focus comments have been overexagerated, and not sure they are from actual users. I have seen plenty of comments from users of the XF10 saying they have no problems with auto focus. I believe it's an excellent camera, and you can not go wrong. But, everyone has different preferences so it's not for all. I have set the dials to my taste and I am more than confident I will get the shot more often than not. The size also means I can carry in my fleece or coat without really noticing it's there. I hope that helps.

it’s reading messages like yours that kills me...not in a negative way.

the camera will be my main camera

I’m coming from already previously owning different fuji x cameras (x100/s xe1/2 / T10) along with various m43 cameras..So I’m not coming from a cell phone comparison. I am looking for a camera with excellent IQ / fuji colors/ small and actually functional...there are just so many cons against the xf10 from different people...then there are people like yourself who come along and say that the camera works well, the AF is not as bad as everyone says and especially that the IQ is excellent ( guessing from the 24mp vs 16mp)

Does the inability to store settings cause a difficulty or problem for you?

Not being able to save settings it the one aspect of the camera I really do not like. However, I ofter use film simulation bracketing, and have used Fuji cameras so long I can alter settings quite quickly. If I am going to shoot certain things like landscapes, or say autumn like now, I dont need to alter much. Just set before I go and shoot, only changing the usual you would along the way such as aperture. I also purchased a adapter that sticks to the lens and enables filters. That is really handy for me personally.

Yes, this has been one of the more curious aspects of criticisms of the camera. You have to take the time to set it up properly and tailor it to your needs.

That is so correct. It seems people just want to turn on and shoot like a mobile phone. Of course you can do this but if you take the time to tailor it, like you said, than it it is a totally different camera. Both in speed and image quality.

So , is there anyone who who choose an xf10 over an x100T?? I’ve read and heard that the IQ from the xf10 is better than the x100T...

I would imagine someone who prefers a 28mm lens and does photography that does not rely on quick and accurate AF might.

Film simulation bracketing saves jpgs only, no raw.

I dont find I need raw with the excellent jpegs that this camera produces. Each to their own on this one.

Sure, i agree. But to get these excellent jpgs you have to tune not only FilmSim but all other settings - sharpening, noise reduction, etc. as well. And these settings vary from say chrome to black and white. If you use FilmSim bracketing all other settings stay the same for all three jpgs. You simply don't get what the camera is capable of and thats a pity.

I get that, that's why I dont use bracketing all the time. When I do, I generally alter colour, sharpness etc. Whilst this applies to all 3, it works for how I like the pictures. My main setting will always be manual mode with which ever film simulation suits the scene. However, sometimes I like to use simulation bracketing to decide if the scene looks better in, say, provia, classic chrome or b&w. I will than switch to just one simulation and tweak from there. Or use this as a quick reference of which simulation looks better for a later date or proper shoot. I hope that makes sense.

Re: X100s vs x70 vs xf10

Since the wonderful x100s is more or less ruled out then I would suggest the x70 is the way to go.

If you're not a pixel peeping, the image quality is perfectly good, and clear manual controls make it a better camera experience, I feel. If you are with family and friends (or even on your own), the selfie screen is very useful, and that auto switch... sush a great idea. A dedicated movie button too...

I think the XF10 is a little too simplistic and feels like a cheap toy. Although some poelpe have mentioned that it may have been improved, initially, when I used my friend's who bought it when it came out, the AF was frustratingly bad!

I'm still using my X70 even though its a bit battered and worn. If the one you found is in good condition, well done. If it's been sitting for a while, maybe you can bargain a bit.

I bought my XF10 late - this April. By then the firmware had been updated and I've had, like many here, no issues focusing whatsoever.

I shoot in Snap Focus, set to two metres, in RAF, only. The only outstanding issue is lens speed. It's not for capturing quick movement.

The image quality is better than the RAF files from my old X70 and my GR, and is equal to my X100F. Just different. It has a Bayer sensor. My X100F files are generally softer.

I bought it as a supplement, not as a replacement for my X100F, because of the 28mm focal length and because the size sets off fewer alarms shooting in crowds.

You can use it as a street camera, but you have to let subjects slowly walk into the frame, in advance, to avoid smearing. 98% hit rate so far.

This is a good example of how the XF10 works for me:

Thanks for your imput...and Thanks to everyone else as well.

so I bought the xf10 and quick first impressions

pleasantly surprised by the build quality

af seems to be fine for me

haven’t seen the IQ yet...still trying to figure out the Bluetooth connection with my ipad

the screen info is small...as I need reading glasses...but ok

one question I have is..

can I assign the top dials to other functions? I would much prefer the front dial to by my exp comp

Glad to hear you are happy with the camera. The build quality is beter in person than it looks in pictures isnt it. Yes, you can assign different functions to the top dials. Pretty much all the dials and buttons are customizable. You can even assign functions to different swipes of the touch screen. Enjoy learning about the camera, I hope it goes well.

Re: X100s vs x70 vs xf10

I am about to pull the trigger on an X70, as I have found a used one that is OK in price. The goal is to get something small, and I shoot very deliberately. Plus, I also want the image quality of that generation sensor.

I have owned many Fuji and Oly cameras. I have only had one camera that made me so frustrated that I wanted to jump out the window. That's the XF-10. I am happy to read that others are enjoying it. For me, buttons stuck constantly, camera shut off by itself while shooting, AF missed all the time, ridiculously slow, etc. I always had the latest firmware. I sold it after trying to make it work for me.

Maybe there are a few badly manufactured ones in the bunch, or QC is questionable on this camera. I think the image quality is good, but the effort killed it. Maybe if there is a version 2, I will try it.

I can recommend the fujifilm wide angle filter, which is truly amazing, making a 21mm with the same image quality, it takes a few seconds to rotate in place and then feels as part of the camera, you do need to change the settings to make the camera adjust and have the correct exif, this is easiest done by assigning the wide angle to the left function button

My X70 has been perfectly trustworthy, feels rock solid, everything works all the time, i feel i can really depend on it, even the autofocus, which is of course slightly slower than new cameras, and the digital zoom is good enough to use (fun fact; the 35mm digital zoom equals a 1” sensor and the 50mm zoom is like a ⅔” sensor

The only minor annoyances is the aperture ring goes from A to f16….f2.8, which means that if you accidentally bump the ring then you will get f16 instead of Auto, has happened to me twice, the ring has clear stop so it is unlikely to happen

The other thing is the all too common Fuji thing that waking from sleep takes longer than turning the camera on, if it has entered sleep mode, then it is easiest  to turn it off and on instead of long press the shutter to wake it

Maybe there are a few badly manufactured ones in the bunch, or QC is questionable on this camera. I think the image quality is good, but the effort killed it. Maybe if there is a version 2, I will try it.

I had their nice compacts X10, X20 and X30 which had ⅔” sensors, they were very interesting, though sadly unreliable to turn on and not as pocketable as the X70, and demanded two hand operation, while the X70 is working fine with one hand, just get a really good handstrap!

I have both the X70 and XF10. The X100 class was a little too expensive for my budget, tho they have always been on my wish list. The X70 was my everyday carry around camera until the Xf10 came a long. I was frustrated with the XF10 for a long time but now I find the results are equal to if not better than the X70. And image quality definitely better.

I wish Fuji would upgrade one or both of these cameras. For us old timers who just want to have a quality camera to put in our pocket (I have a flack jacket with big pockets) to take with us everywhere, these cameras are great, but both could definitely be improved. I don't want to lug around the X models cameras and lenses, tho do have a fine set of lenses and cameras to take out when I want some quality on special projects. Seems a shame Fuji is only concentrating on hi end cameras. I had a X10 which I loved, but unfortunately it got water logged in a typhoon in Thailand, and got the X70 for a replacement. I would love an X40, Fuji- hint, hint!!!! But doubt we'll see one this century.
