X100s vs x70 vs xf10

Can’t decide on the following options

X100 s

x70

xf10

all 3 are around the same price of 300€ ( xf10 is 250€)

I am selling my panasonic gx80 and am looking to replace it with one of these 3 cameras.

I know the x100s is the oldest, but has an evf that I like...

I also read about how bad the auto focus is on the xf10, but wasn’t there a firmware update for this issue?

thanks for any help

I think it will come down to x70 or xf10 ( I will most likely miss the evf, but I had a nikon cpa, that I really liked. The x100s that I come across are not in the best of shape for the same price as the x70

Laggy operation and AF, the T was a MAJOR improvement in many ways (same IQ.)  Great IQ

x70

Awesome camera, no EVF, some say soft lens but I think the IQ is awesome

xf10

Oh mate. I played with one in store and the AF made it a complete and utter no-no.

I'm no fan of the gx80, i passed on it before i came over to fuji. That said i dont consider any of these 3 cameras a worthy upgrade. Although you dont exactley say why you are replacing your gx80 with one?

consider xe3 or xt30 atleast imo

Hiya,

thanks a lot for your reply, I believe those are my thoughts as well...and I am also leaning more towards the x70...I’m only a tad concerned about the no view finder...I live in the sunny south of France, but I did use the CPA in Morocco...pretty damn sunny there as well

My gx80 gave me pleasant photos with nice color, but something was always still off or felt a bit missing.

The white balance was’t always the most reliable and the interesting color look thag fuji gives wasn’t there and couldn’t be recreated in camera. I know that I could do it in post, but I don’t want to have to always pp my images. I know that IQ on a technical point is not all that different between m43 and apsc, but there is a difference andI miss the fuji look (in camera jpg) Ther is no classic chrome in the gx80 no matter what I try to do. Plus I like only using a fix lens, and I like the 28 - 35 mm fov...I do get an itch for macro or at least close-up from time to time, but not enough to warrant a macro lens purchase.

I also did consider the xe2 + 27mm but that is in line with the x100 s argument...the xe3 and onwards are too expensive ( considering a lens as well) with the amount I’ll get for the gx80 sale

The XF10 tests slightly better than the X70 but probably not a deciding factor:

I don't currently have data on the X100S

Do consider the T over the S if funds allow.

The difference in AF and overall speed as well as button and some other things really was a leap.

I'm not sure where the people who have commented are getting their information from but the X70 is probably the least capable mirrorless camera Fuji has ever manufactured.

The X100S beats it in every category and there's really no comparison.

The XF10 has a better lens than the X70 but it's terrible when it comes to focusing accuracy.

Read the reviews for these two cameras, on this forum.

The X100S was given the Gold award by DPR and, although not perfect, is a very, very good camera.

A fast lens, hybrid viewfinder, great build, and a much more capable camera than either the X70 or XF10.

I will admit the XF10 image quality is very good provided your lighting is good but it doesn't hold a candle to the X100S in low light.

How about an xe3 and 27mm 2.8?

i had an x70 and I just couldn’t get along with it. When it nailed it the image quality was superb, but my success rate was mixed.

It was my backup to my xt2 and I sold it and bought an xe3.

I wasn’t overly impressed at first but now I use it more than my XT!

Get the XF10. It has a leaf shutter, and the RAW files are better than the GR3.

Ignore the complaints about the autofocus. Just set to Snap Focus at 2 or 5 metres. That's where the XF10 performs best. You have to use it like a GR.

There's a lot of great customisation features that get overlooked too.

Replace the lens cap with an X100F cap. The included one sucks.

I will often carry my XF10 with me along with my X100F and use it when I need to be more discrete. It's small enough that carrying both is not an issue.

Like the X70, the lens could be faster, so stick to static objects or slow-moving people. 28mm is a great focal length for street shooting.

If Fuji ever roll out an X80, an F2.0 lens would be the best possible upgrade to this series.

Re: X100s vs x70 vs xf10

It is very difficult for me to compare the xf10 and x70 because neither are in the same location here.
since I’m ok (for the moment) with ruling out view finders I also came across the xA5...

I’ve never considered an xa series before because I was always attached to having a view finder, so I always went with an x100/x100s/xe1/xe2/xt10 ( yes I had each of them at one time). Each was sold at different times for different reasons.
I don’t really mind a slower autofocus ( like I said I owned the x100 and xe1). I don’t take many photos of fast moving subjects..my kids are older now, so they stay still during photos. The problems I read about with the xf10 is that it misses focus entirely...yet, when in focus the images are superb...but also read and saw videos telling that the x70 is still superior in everyway ( except for having a 16mp and not the 24mp sensor)...hence my recent curiosity in the xA5

I've read all of them, and those were primarily users or reviewers who didn't use or demo them in Snap Focus. Fuji should have done a better job pitching the XF10. I blame marketing for not anticipating possible misuses.

That said, a fair number of users who don't shoot with Snap Focus have had no similar issues, so this points to a lack of proper setup instructions. See Ming Thein and Eric Kim's reviews. Again, not a good intro of the camera on Fuji's part.

As I made clear, it's not a perfect camera. It reminds me a lot of DP Merrills, which had horrible usability if you didn't know how to handle them, but great image quality.

I owned an X70 and the image quality was far inferior. I switched to a GR at the time. It's not a serious alternative. If you want a more standard compact, get an RX100 series model. Smaller sensor - that's the tradeoff. I prefer APS-C compacts.

I own a XF10 and can not confirm the af issues mentioned. Sure, it's not as fast as my Z6 or as a RX100 VII, it's not very well suited for sports, action or kids - although a get a decent keeper rate taking pictures of my son.

I'd say AF speed on the XF10  is comparable to my X-E1 with the 27mm / 2.8, but sure slower than on my X-T30. AF accuracy on the XF10 after firmware update is good, no complaints here. Face / eye detecion works well.

On the other hand: Astonishing IQ and really pocketable - the only larger sensor camera (besides the GR) that fits that criteria. A used XF10 is really great value.

I can only speak for me.  I had the original X-100, loved it.   Over the last few years I've owned or rented a Ricoh GRII, Fuji XF10 and Fuji X-70.  I kept the X70.

I like the X100 very much and am tempted with each new iteration but frankly the X-70 fits me better.  I personally like the wider lens, 18mm vs 35mm and the smaller size of the X-70.  I carried the X100 in a jacket pocket, the X-70 in my back jeans pocket.

The Ricoh is a wonderful camera, I was never comfortable with it.  Again, a personal thing.

I was expecting (hoping) Fuji to announce an X-80, they released the XF10 instead, I bought one immediately.  The controls are quite different to the X70 but it's small and quite inexpensive.  I became totally frustrated with it's inability to focus at all, much less quickly, that I returned it before I ever got used to it.

Evidently Fuji firmware upgrades have spoken somewhat to the XF10's AF issue, so??

I like the X70 very much and it gets used 75%+ of the time over my X-Pro2.  Also, the X70 has a bit of a cult following so if it doesn't fit you resale is a likely option.

If you are getting the X100S, spend a little more for the T.

Beyond the fact that the X100 has a viewfinder and is larger, the X100 is 23mm f2 while the others are 18mm f2.8.

I owned x100 and x70 before, multiple times with all the wcl and TCL. Last year I had all of them and planed a trip just with both and three wcl and TCL.

Eventually sold x70 multiple times. Here are my thoughts.

X70 is super compact and truly portable, and the only pocket able other than xf10. Quality is very good, period. I like view finder, lcd is an issue under the sun, I don't really enjoy 18mm and thought my phone can do as well. Last, x70 is too expensive. Size is a bit too small. Feel good in pocket but not in hand.

X100 is always the camera I had since I got the original. Now use x100t. Had F before. I got a chance to buy T at $350 and sold F. It bottomed up for X100S price. It has view finder. Take perfect picture. A bit slow but none of three are fast. It is good size.

I will go with 100s out of three. Also not A line. If possible, find a T version but for taking picture, it is good enough.

Good luck.
