X-T20 keeps resetting to factory settings -- please help!!

Hi!! I'll go for a photo shoot with my X-T20, get home, take out the battery to easily access the memory card, take out the memory card, put it in my iMac memory card reader, import photos into Lightroom, eject the memory card, put it back into the camera, and then put the battery back in. All of a sudden, the camera has reset to its default factory settings -- so I then have to reset the language, date, time, etc, and I lose all my customized buttons and My Menu settings. This is happening over and over. The time from taking out the memory card and battery to putting it back in might be a matter of 5-6 minutes tops sometimes, and the battery is full when I take it out.

What's happening here? What's the problem and how do I fix it? Please help!! And thanks in advance for any insights you have.

Try leaving a fully charged battery in your camera for a couple of days to charge the dead internal battery (which is used for retaining the settings). If that doesn’t do it, it’s likely going to require a trip to a servicer.

Not a complete answer to your problem (which is likely a bad internal battery) but I use a small piece of duct tape attached to my SD cards to make it easy to remove the cards without messing with the battery.

First make a backup of your setting using X Acquire. There is a small battery in your camera that keeps enough power on the memory holding your settings. It is recharged by the main battery. If this internal battery is faulty - then when you remove the battery you will lose your settings. This has been a common issue with multiple Fuji cameras.

Plus several incidents documented on DPReview.  Sounds like you need a long charge on the internal backup battery or it is bad and needs replaced.

Oof. Thanks all, I was afraid it might be something requiring a trip to the repair shop. Does anyone know whether this is something a local camera shop can do, or does it require shipping to Fuji?

I had an X-E2 that developed an internal dead battery. My warranty period had already expired and when I asked for a quote from the Fuji rep, their reply was $100 USD. I found a quick work-around for when the camera would continually reset every time I needed to switch out the main battery. What  I did was to switch out the battery as quickly as possible, usually under 3 seconds, resulting in the camera not resetting. With practice this can overcome a dead internal battery. I eventually had to quit using the X-E2 because the Q buttons were dying, AF died and the LCD became an intro to the "Outer Limits."

Re: X-T20 keeps resetting to factory settings -- please help!!

So I tried my local camera shops (this is in SF, so a decent sized city) and they say they don't repair digital cameras, they'd have to ship it to Fuji, and it would take 6+ weeks to get a quote, repair, and shipped back. Is that consistent with everyone else's experience or knowledge? Is there any way to get it worked on faster? Are there online repair places that are reputable and would move faster than Fuji? B&H or anything else?
