My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)

Clouds of the day.

I had been made aware of this "bird" location, about 50 miles from my house. I didn't get there till mid afternoon, lovely location, known for geese, egrets, and other species.

Will have to give it some thought. Southwestern, Indiana. The beautiful sky, was the icing on the cake.

Thanks Iain, I thought you might like that one! Can it be creative and plagiarised at the same time?

... Fall Colours (D100)...

... Listening to a song today, I was thinking that when the two voices were harmonizing, it is like two colours harmonizing. Perhaps the magic of the CCD sensor is that it harmonizes colours better... more naturally. Whereas a CMOS sensor does well with pictures of single, separate colours- like crayons- but does not harmonize them well.

Clowning around...

I love Halloween - we get 400-500 kids every year and that is on a week-night. If a weekend upwards of 1,000... no lie... every single one of them dressed and considerate, we even get adults ( 50, 60, 70 years old ). I love it. Sadly this year due to a real scary monster called Covid I'm going to turn out the lights and close the door. Neighbors are having a ball tho... took these just tonight.

Greetings...

Lovely!

Iain, I am not so keen on your #2 but #1 is lovely. I think you are going to 'win' this week's submissions. Lots of people say spring is their favourite time of year but mine is autumn (providing it is not raining) because of the colours.

Quite rare Hoopoe on the cricket field in the UK

For about a week now there has been a Hoopoe on the Collingham Cricket field about 3 miles from my house. This is pretty rare for the UK and even rarer for this far North. I resisted the temptation of popping down over the weekend as it was wet and I knew there would be loads of people there. Yesterday it was sunny so I popped down and spent an hour sitting on the field with about 30 others. I went home with wet and muddy trousers but it was worth it. The Hoopoe doesn't seem to be bothered by the dozens of people and at one stage came to within 8 feet of me.

There are a few more on flickr.

Re: Lovely!

... Thanks David. The challenge is finding a clear focus in a composition, so the first image is stronger. But, loved the rich tones in the second.

Martin, I have only ever seen these in zoos and had no idea they are to be seen in the wild in the UK, albeit rarely. Great pictures.
