I attached my G12 on a handlebar of a motorcycle and damaged shots

Hello everyone,

I thought I could attach my G12 on the motorcycle handlebar awhile back and it didn't turn well. The photos are full of white lines (see attached). Anyone have any idea what can I do or replace to fix it? Sensor or something else? any help would be appreciated

Re: I attached my G12 on a handlebar of a motorcycle and damaged shots

Never owned it, and someone else may know. I have a couple of old cameras with no such problems. Can't guess at physical damage. I notice a slow 1/50 shutter, open f/2.8 aperture and 800 ISO which would be overexposed and noisy on any of my units, but haven't seen that horizontal effect. Only suggestion is to try exposing better, remove any custom JPEG output tweaks (I'd use Settings to reset everything to Canon default, do some exposure bracketing, and look at RAW output, too. Worth googling to see if there were reported issues years ago, or firmware is available online to reinstall.)

@radiator,

Try a different SD card first (or format one) and take some test shots.

If that is not the problem it looks like a sensor or a loose cable problem. You may have to send it to Canon.

I hope this helps.

Mechanical shutter failure can cause symptoms like this. If recorded video and live view look normal, that would strongly suggest shutter failure. Shutter failure could be either electrical connection, actuator failure, or being physically stuck.

It's either file corruption or (more likely) bad sensor/loose cable.  You'll notice there doesn't seem to be in blue in the image, which can be caused by either of those.

Re: I attached my G12 on a handlebar of a motorcycle and damaged shots

Thank you I2K4,

I have been trying various suggestions but unfortunately nothing has worked. reset, all the ISOs, all the apertures, etc. I haven't looked at the raw outputs just yet. surprisingly though, the video works fine!

As for the firmware, I haven't tried it yet. But I will very soon!

Thanks

Thanks PhotoRaw:

I formatted it and used a few others but it didn't work. I have a feeling something is loose and I want to leave it at last before I start looking inside. The sensor is actually not that expensive (maybe $25 I think). Surprisingly, the video works fine

I have a strong feeling its something like that. I am going to find out soon after I try the easy paths.

Thanks reyalp

Re: I attached my G12 on a handlebar of a motorcycle and damaged shots

I just looked at eBay, its funny how people are still selling it for more than half the price when I bought it!! I left this camera out since it was damaged in 2016 and now my son has a photography class to learn about various settings. I wanted to let him use this for learning without worrying about it  .  I will tell him white lines are part of the Art
