PENTAX K50 focal lenght
1

in menu FOCAL LENGTH INPUT no longer available. occasionally i use a non auto lens, and it use to work fine.

about six months ago my exposure went out the window. sent camera to PENTAX / RICOH for repair. they replaced resistor board. problem fixed.

yesterday was the first time since repair i tried a manual lens and it will not function.

what should happen when i turn power on after mounting lens is you should get a screen INPUT FOCAL LENGTH  that dose not happen and the camera will not function.

further it is not accessible in MENU. it is there but not highlighted and can not be accessed.

my question is HELP WHATS GOING ON...no no no SORRY.   do you think it is a malfunction or is it possible  repair messed up something when they worked on it ?

thank you for any input

Is SR turned on, that's when you get that. If SR is off you won't see it,  (I think)

I think you should contact Ricoh and explain the problem to see what they say.

It should work regardless of any camera setting. As the first thing, clean the contacts on the camera mount (and on the lens) with an alcohol swab.

Make sure you've set the "use aperture ring" custom option to something like "permitted" (could be worded slightly differently) and probably "catch-in-focus" to "on" if that is your preference. Also you might want to make sure SR is turned on, note that in certain shooting modes like timer it automatically turns the SR off.

If I understand correctly the problem only occurs when he attaches a manual lens to the camera. When you do this, there should be a pop up screen telling you to input the focal length but this is not happening. This pop up is independent of all other camera settings. I'm afraid that what you suggest would have no effect in the fault.

There was a time when the focal length question only popped up when SR was turned on, this changed and I can't remember which cameras have the change and which cameras are on the old system.

Well if it did, it predates the K20

If i turn SR switch to off on my K10D it doesn't ask for the focal length when I turn the camera on... maybe that was the last generation?

You need to go back to ricoh and explain the situation. It sounds like it needs further attention.

You did check that the use of aperture rings is allowed, didn't you?

Cheers
