My heat-seeking rodent missile.....
5

This guy patrols my yard for those pesky chipmunks. I got a clear shot of him this AM. Had only one shot before he left his perch on my deck. Unfortunately it was through the window. I think it's a red hawk.

Good catch!

How close was it?

Re: My heat-seeking rodent missile.....

Thanks Barry. He was 15 feet from my camera position. I cropped this photo a bit because I only was able to point and fire off one shot before he was gone. I wanted to get a tighter shot with the zoom. These hawks never stay in one spot for long, except if they are perched up high in a tree. I've seen him around but never had a chance to see him this close.

Cheers

Sigh!

(Birds "social distance" from me!)

I hear ya Barry. I just got fortunate and barely had time to focus. One of these red hawks in my area actually got a small housecat last year. Right out of a neighbor's yard.

Nice garden keeper !

I hope he will feel at home and be soon more confident to let you get better pics.

Already a good start for an instinctive shot !

Best regards, Fred

Thanks Skip py. I see him almost every day, but he doesn't have a pattern. I'll keep trying for a cleaner shot.
