Well that's of course what generates responses like mine. A need to clarify.

For 50mm the Canon line up isn't complete, that's my point.

I actually agree with this, and thus the last line in my previous post!

If you really think Canon offers a complete lens line up you're not living on my planet, sorry.

LOL, don't turn this into a "US Presidential Debate!"

Definitely no need to get your undies in a bunch. I've had to live with this (IMO) mediocre 50mm selection for decades!

I was just responding to your post line by line. In a reasoned manner.

All this is why the RF 50/1.2 appeals to me so much. But since I have the excellent EF-M 32mm for my M6ii, I'll likely just be getting the upcoming RF 50mm f/1.8 IS.

Nikon is so much better with their f1.8 g's

That is why Nikon started with these for their Z models

hopefully with RF 85 F2 IS and RF 50 F1.8 Canon corrects the years of garbage

Exactly. Nikon has the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 S. 650 grams. Stellar IQ.

Canon has nothing like that.

So why would Canon not produce a comparable product?  Certainly they have had loads of time to come up with one. I have heard people complaining about the EF 50mm f1.4 for years and years.

No no, i won't.

Yet i might sound a bit more frustrated than you do.

If it has IS. That remains to be seen actually. And with the ef-m 32mm there's still no IBIS.....

I have EOS M6, M3 and M50 so getting either:

  • M6 mk II
  • RP

is a logical choice for me, R5 and R6 are too expensive/rare at the moment for me, I am also not convinced that I could live with only 20 MP.

So it is basically down to 26 MP with integrated VF FF or 32 MP crop with no VF.

I would really like a real world comparison of these 2.

So a conclusion of shorts...

Given that M50mk2 is going to be as cheap and cheerful as Mk 1 there is kind of no reason not to get it.

Which brings me back to the original subject... I am probably closer to getting RP than M6.

I would skip the M6mkII and stay with the M50.  You can't go wrong with the RP + 24-105 f/4.0. All you could do "wrong" is the timing. It might be smart to wait a while.

Maybe you want to upgrade that M50 one day, but if you like an integrated viewfinder, get an upgrade having that viewfinder integrated, and if it doesn't come, you can always build your RF lens collection further.

If the M50 mk2 has another control wheel I’ll probably be interested.  The lack of external controls is probably my biggest frustration with the m50
