Storage question.

Having 3 bodies and 8 lenses they obviously won't all fit in my backpack nor do I need them all for every shoot. Like to know how everyone stores their "excess" equipment when not being used and is there a best method.  I'm thinking Pelican case. Your thoughts?

On the bookshelf - I am not in a humid environment, so I don't need to worry about that

I have a dedicated 'photography cupboard' in which I keep lenses, bodies and other items in the padded bags and pouches with which they came. If the items came 'bare' I use plastic freezer bags (meant for food). Cables, batteries, connectors etc. are in wooden boxes in the cupboard.

As for carting stuff around, it is rare for me ever to take more than one camera, one lens and one flashgun, all of which fits in a modest, padded camera case.

My approach is very relaxed; fairly often used equipment not currently in the bag is on a corner of a large table. Rarely used items are kept in a cupboard.

A wine cabinet not plugged. With silica gel which I microwave 6 months. I live in place where humidity is average most days of year and it's dry inside house.

Re: Storage question.

Came here to ask a similar question.  Wondering if anyone could share photos of their office/strage space.  My wife is on me about cleaning up my mess! lol

For reference, I have 2 bodies, 8 or so lenses, 2 drones, GoPros and GoPro accessories, and all kinds of random cords, chargers, tripods, mounts etc.

Looking for better office organization methods.  Thanks!

Mine gave up long ago, the room is mine all mine and it stays the way I want it.

I did clear a narrow path across the floor so I can get to the desk in the dark without too many collisions.

No photos as it is too horrifying for the average forum dweller.

Long held cameras and stuff in a large sealed cargo box with silica gel and more recently went to a proper dry cabinet (as per my post above) for cameras and lenses. Old film gear that is no longer used moved to the cargo box.

Cheap plastic drawer sets in various sizes and configurations keep all the cables, chargers and odd bits in their place with drawers labelled mostly.

Dust of course is the big enemy, worse with full house air-con as it keeps stirring the air gently when used and settles dust everywhere. A number of various size scraps of cloth cover things not used to stop too much dust settling on them.

Been in this house 50 years now so well settled, maybe sometime in the next 50 years I will start tidying it up a bit.

Re: Storage question.

I Keep most of my kit in a Lowepro backpack in the cupboard, i never take it out the house it was cheaper than a pelican, i bought it on facebook market place.  Keeps all my kit safe and i just take out what i need and put it in a smaller bag.

If she saw my studio it might get her off your back.

Oh, you're looking for something organized. Nope, can't help with that.

Vice versa

It's the other way round in my household. I can't abide clutter and mess or giving house space to things that are rarely or never used. My partner on the other hand turns any space she [thinks] she controls into utter chaos!

Re: Storage question.

Another vote for a big airtight box with a big silica gel bag that is microwaved from time to time.

Re: Storage question.

I have several bodies, lenses and large telephotos which I store in a large closet, in their own specific bags.  During the wet winter, I run a dehumidifier in the closet to keep the relative humidity at or below 40%.
