Tamron 17-28 F2.8 vs Zeiss 16-35 F4

I know there are several reviews online already, but I am looking for some user experience on this comparison.

The Tamron usually goes for about 1000$ CAD used locally, as it is fairly new.

The Sony/Zeiss I found locally for 800$ CAD used, as it has no box and has some scuffs and marks cosmetically on the body from bumping other lenses in a camera bag, according to the seller. This is about half its retail price, which is more than the Tamron, so I am wondering if it isn't the better bargain.

Personally I would prefer the extra light of the Tamron, as I can live without the extra range I believe. F4 isn't very bright, it would only really be good for outdoors, and eliminates any usefulness for astrophotography, which I don't do a lot but would like to do more of. However, I am mostly look for the better bargain as I am just a hobbyist looking for quality at a good price. I know as well some people say the Zeiss is rather soft past around 28mm.

For reference, I do a little of everything. Portraits, Landscape, Birds, Animals, indoors, outdoors, stars, etc. Feel free to check my gear list if you like!

I’ve owned both lenses.  The 17-28 is excellent, in my opinion.  For me the decision came down to whether I would find myself making frequent lens changes to cover the 28-35 range.   I found i shoot more often at 24 instead of 35 so I purchased the Tamron.  And I thought the 16-35 was good but wasn’t better than the Tamron.  The 16-35 GM was just to big.  I now travel with the Tamron 17-28 and 28-200 on vacation.

I had the Sony. It's good at the center, but quite weak at the edge and corner. I later changed to Tamron, and found the edge and corner much better. For the center, they might be the same. For landscape, edge and corner are important. I don't regret on the switch.

I had two copies of the Sony and sold both. Was never happy with the results and typical for older Sony lenses, sharpens across the frame was not great. The 17-28mm I got now is MUCH better and a keeper for me.
I do have a 35mm Prime and do not need the extra reach on my zoom so that helped my decision.

I have owned both. As many have said the Tamron is sharp, small, and light. Ultimately it wasn't for me. Based on what and how I shoot I missed the extra on the wide and long end.  Most say 16mm to 17mm makes no difference but when you are shooting interiors and can't back up anymore it DOES make a difference.

I guess I am just a 16-35 guy vs 17-28...

The weather sealing of the Tamron is better - there are no moving outer parts if you add a filter. https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64363210
