Hadn't expected to fall in love with this one! Wish it were faster.

I was recently gifted this lens from a fellow photographer. An amazing gift...he had been gifted the lens, didn't feel right selling it and wanted it to be in the hands of a capable photographer who would appreciate it.

I'll admit that I wasn't looking for something so wide nor something this slow (2.8). Still...I likewise didn't feel right selling to fund a different lens.

Well, after shooting with it I am in love with this lens (except that aperture!). One of my first images is posted here. I traveled to Seattle for my nephew's wedding and made this my travel lens (with my 35mm f2 in my pocket). I have a dog series "dogs I meet", call it a photojournalist's approach to dogs...and this lens is perfect!
Phenomenally sharp lens and able to focus to 4" which is amazing for my dog photography! One of Fuji's oldest X lenses and one of it's best!

Picking up my Dad. SeaTac airport. 14mm f2.8 Pup is about 4" from my lens!

Nice comments and love the photo too. I also enjoy this lens so was surprised to see 3.5 stars for a lens that you love, especially given that the only downside that you mention is the aperture which is known up front.

I suppose the question is whether the rating should be how well the lens performs versus a perfect lens. Or how well it performs vs a perfect lens with that FL and aperture. I’m in the latter camp but imagine you’re in the former.

fuji 14 and the 60 are the 2 most underrated/best value lenses in its whole lineup for IQ/rendering.

They both kind of fell under the radar after the 16 1.4 and 56 1.2 came out.

I mean if you need 1.4/1.2...by all means get those, but if you don't, I don't think you're missing out on anything.

Drat! I didn't mean 3.5 stars and don't know how to edit that rating! As for the 2.8...sure I wish it were faster...however when I was a photojournalist my fastest Nikkor lenses were 2.8s.

If you know how to change ratings let me know! Meant 4.5 stars NOT 3.5.

I have the 60mm and had the chance to use it a couple of weeks ago to take a portrait for a Governor's candidate and was blown away by its IQ, it is a great lens!

Ah, that makes more sense. Good to know

No idea how to change the review, sorry, I thought you could edit posts and was going to suggest that, but even that’s not showing up for me

Ah, I can edit but only this new one which makes me remember that there’s a time limit on edits I think

I’d second the 60mm fantastic lens. The only thing letting it down is the slow focus.  Is is definitely one of my favourites.

ive heard similar about the 14 which is on my list alongside the 35 f1.8

The 60, being a macro lens (or macroish for people who need more magnification), has slower AF. Considering it's actually quite snappy on X-T3 and newer cameras I think had it been released now, as opposed to when Fujis were slower, the general attitude towards it would be different.

I agree the 60s speed depends on your bidy. Its great on my H1 but can hunt on my xt20. It is one of my favourite lenses though. Small enough to carry around all day which you cant say of many macros. Its also not bad as a portrait lens

Re: Hadn't expected to fall in love with this one! Wish it were faster.

This is my second time around with Fuji. Shot it for quite awhile when it first came out with X-Pro1, X-E1, X-E2, and X-T1. My first mirrorless system that I chose to use along side  when I shot Canon as my full frame DSLR. Returned to it in the last year first with the X-T3 and now the X-T4.

The XF 14mm f/2.8 has always been one of my favorites that I use in tandem with the XF 23mm f/1.4 which in any system a 21 and 35 for me is a great combo. For some reason 24mm full-frame or 16mm for APS-C is just in between for me unless you really need the f/1.4. Maybe someday Fuji will make a 14mm f/2 or 1.8.  Also love the size of the 14mm pretty much perfect. Also it a great pairing with the XF 16-55mm .

The picture of the dog is great as well. Thanks for sharing.

I join in the praise of the IQ of the 60, and I’ve experienced a huge boost to its performance on the used H1 I recently got, compared to my beloved but beat up T1. I can even use zone AF-C on macro shots with the H1, sometimes, but even single point AF-S was a problem on the T1 at magnifications above ¼ or so.

I like the 60 for portraits and landscape, as well. It is compact as well as versatile.

If they ever update it (not likely, I think, given the presence of the 80), I’d love to see the fiddly 39 mm filter abandoned for ~52, and perhaps WR, along with maybe faster AF — but don’t change the imaging!

I’d also love to see a ~40/2.8 macro with a max mag of 2 or higher, no IS but preferably WR, and maybe with a clutch like the 14, 16/1.4, and 23/1.4 (shorter lengths can be easier to get well diffused flashes on live subjects)—but that, too, is unlikely.

And I sorta wish the 80/2.8 had been released at 120 mm, as originally rumored, even if it were f/4. That would be better for working distance, at least when using natural light—and would have left more scope for an update of the 60.

I am very curious about the 14, but can’t justify it as I have the Rokinon 12/2 and the 16/1.4. Maybe someday.
