Awful Video Quality with Sony Webcam App

I downloaded and installed the Sony Imaging Edge Webcam software and I'm getting terrible results with it. I tried my A6500 and my A7R2 and both produce ugly video as webcams. In this video you'll see my old Logitech webcam that is FAR better than my A7R2. Any thoughts?

I had similar experience. The output resolution is terrible (less than HD) and the refresh rate seemed jumpy.

This inexpensive ($15) HDMI over USB adapter works flawlessly as a webcam in every app I have tried with great quality at 1080p:

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll try it. I wonder why Sony would release a program that does such a lousy job. It doesn't make sense.

Resolution is 720p but the image is crystal clear for me.

Same here.

But then I do not expect 8K video quality - just some pretty ok webcam quality...

Same here, little capture device works great, but I was an early purchaser at the outrageous price of $19!  Seriously, I have had an old ElGato Camlink that I bought for maybe $100 several years ago and this little $15 one works just as well.  I think pandemic demand first caused a price rise, and then when demand dropped off a little the prices dropped very quickly.  Don't forget to buy cables.
