Upgrading from a6300 to a7iii (Or maybe a7Riii?) and lenses
1

Hello,

currently I'm using Sony alpha 6300 with 10-18, 16-70 and 70-200 f/4.

Since I'm looking for better performance in low light conditions and during sunset and sunrise, when the light is limited when compared to daylight, probably the best option is upgrading to FF.

Since the 16-70 isn't suitable for full frame camera (I know that I can use It on crop mode, but I don't want to do so), I'm thinking about two options in my budget:

1. Sony 24-70 f/4

2. Tamron 28-75 f/2.8

Which of them is better?

I had good experience with Tamron in the past.

The 10-18 is also an APS-C lens, but I won't upgrade It now, in the future I'll buy Tamron 17-28 f/2.8 or Sony 16-35 f/4, since It can work on FF body on some ranges as I saw in youtube and some websites.

I'm mainly taking photos of airplanes, so I need fast and reliable autofocus system.

The autofocus system in the alpha 6300 doing pretty well for my usage. This is the main reason why I'm thinking about the alpha 7 mk3 and not the R model, since It has autofocus system with more focus points. The R model offers better resolution, which can help when I need to crop photos.

I'll also buy Sigma 100-400 for E mount, since 200mm (even on APS-C body) isn't enough for my usage.

So my main questions:

1. Would you buy the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 or the Sony 24-70 f/4 and why?

2. Would you buy the alpha 7 mk3 or the alpha 7R mk3 for my usage and why?

Thanks!

Another option in the new a7C, but It seems to me too expensive and I can't find any advantage over the mk3 or the R mk3.

I would like to hear your opinion.

Re: Upgrading from a6300 to a7iii (Or maybe a7Riii?) and lenses

Can anybody help please?

I already decided to order the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

I also ordered the Sigma 100-400 for Sony E mount.

Now I just need to decide about the camera body.

My main concern in the R model is the focus system, which can be slower than the focus system in the non R model, according to some people and reviews.

My harder usage should be aircraft spotting, mostly civil aviation where I need fast and accurate focus system, but passenger airplanes are pretty easy to expect.

However, if I'm investing a big amount of money, I want my camera to be able to focus fast and accurate also on military and extreme airplanes, like airplanes in some air show or air force exhibition.

I already know that the R model provides better EVF, better screen and higher resolution (which can be very helpful for aircraft spotting) and the non R model provides more focus points, as well as a little bit higher performance in low light conditions.

Thank you.

The r,s 3 & 4 will do this easily from my brief experience with a7r3 and air show i went too this year ,covid put pay to most of them ,the show was actually bbmf 80th prop stuff world war 2 ,but i have been to american airbases lakenheath to photograph f15 and f16 jets , it does this easily in fact holds focus even shooting through fences with the 200-600mm ,very few misses .

Re: Upgrading from a6300 to a7iii (Or maybe a7Riii?) and lenses

Thank you for your comment.

When I'll be able to take photos during air force airshow, It'll be mostly some aerobatic airplanes and fighter jets like F15, F16 and F35, but without any fences.

If the A7RIII will be able to handle it, it'll be more than fine.

Do you think that the focus system in the A7RIII is better than the focus system in the A6300? Or at least equal?

I have no experience with the a6300 ,but would imagine very similar
