X-T200 Raw request
12

Hello all,

I've been to astro with fuji for some time now and find x-t100 to have the same sensor for that purpose. Now given the deals on x-t200, I am willing to upgrade it, just not sure if it will perform at least the same.

For those of you not aware, most fuji bodies feature spatial filtering(similar to sony) that might be better for long exposure photography, but kills some bright small stars.

I would like to ask for long exposure black files from fuji x-t200 or x-a7 owners. Can you please share a 30 or more sec raw file with body cap on at iso 800?

I am really curios to see if these bodies also apply spatial filtering or they don't like the x-t100, in which case x-t200 will be a real bargain for me, since I will end up selling my x-t3 as well maybe

Here are some astro pics with x-t100

Superb shots. Seems the X-T100 is really good for Astro. Have you found the output to be cleaner than the Xtrans bodies. Am also looking to see what others say

Hi there,

I've only had my X-T200 for a few months now and have done some wide view shots of the night sky with my 15-45mm lens and am really happy with my JPEGS. I'm very new to astrophotography though and haven't worked with RAW yet. However, I've made a 30 second raw shot at 800 ISO with the lens cap on and have put the file here. Hope it is of some use!

Hope this link works OK. The file is about 46MB in total.

Best wishes.

Many thanks for supplying the file!!!

The lens cap seems to have a light leek, which is normal, but what is a little more scary is that I see no hot pixels-looks like there is some filtering going on. Are you sure the long exposure NR was off? Need to probably get my hands on one myself. Placing an order now

Many thanks. This is better! The file is very much like the x-t100 file, so I must be happy with the camera. We'll see, I already placed the order, will arrive next week.

Thank you again for your input. I'll update this thread once I find more.

Hi aramgrg,

Those are some awesome X-T100 deep sky photos! I have an X-T2 but I too am planning to get an X-T100 this week and have it Ha modified (and sell the x-t2), based on some research done by some forum members here it looks like the X-T100 performs so much better than the X-T2 and the X-T3 when doing deep sky astro.

If you think that the X-T200 will perform as good or even better than the X-T100, I might hold off on getting the X-T100.

I'm keen to see what you think of the X-T200!

P.S: May I ask what what the ISO and shutter speed was used for the Orion Cloud Complex shot?

Thanks!

Hi simonsuniverse,

May I also request for a RAW sample with an ISO6400 at 30seconds or more? I just want to know if the X-T200 suffer from "glow" issues. My X-T2 has a really bad glow on the left hand side.

This is what I get from my X-T2 at ISO 6400, 2minutes +3exp. And so now I'm considering to buy either an X-T100 or X-T200.

Thank you so much!

thanks for the comment! My go-to iso is 800 in dual gain sensors, or 200 in single gain ones if I know I won't push it for more than 3 stops. So if you can get a decent time, say 3-4min without tracing, then do an iso 200 and push the files ex-post. X-T2 is ealy not the idea camera for astro, it has the star eating problem and amp glow, x-t100 has none of those.

Hi Aramgrg,

Wow thanks for the detailed response! I wonder though, are the X-T100 / X-T200 using a single or a dual gain sensor?

And yes you're correct about the X-T2's star sharpness issue... I have compared it with my very old 5D Mark3 and I get very very sharp stars (on wide milky way shots) on the 5d compared to the X-T2, but I like Fuji's colours more.

Also I'd like to ask, is the Rear Display on the X-T100 good enough when manually focusing on stars?
Here in Australia, I can get a second hand X-T100 for about $500 used, and a brand new X-T200 for about $900. I'm not sure if it's worth it for me to spend more for the X-T200, and so I'm also waiting for your experience regarding the X-T200!

Thanks

x-t100 is a single gain, most certainly x-t200 is the same.

x-t2 is more sensitive to the h-alpha than my canon 6d, and I suppose 5d as well.

Also I'd like to ask, is the Rear Display on the X-T100 good enough when manually focusing on stars?

Not really great, I need to do occasional short exposures with bahtinov mask to achieve perfect focus. In live view x-t100 picks the brightest stars only.

With current discounts x-t200 is a really great deal in US($500 with 15-45mm), so it makes sense to try

Oh no, this is my only concern then.  I'm supposed to buy the X-T3 yesterday for Astro specifically, but after researching more and more, I was convinced that the X-T100 is better.  But now since you mentioned that the RAW file from the X-T200 is similar with the X-T100, I might hold off for a few days and wait for your opinion regarding the X-T200.  If it has the same sensor, performance for Astrophotography as the X-T100 I think I might just get that one.

If you plan to use it for anything else,  you really don't want x-t100. It is super slow, af sucks and the grip is non existent.  X-t200 is much better from what I read online.

Re: X-T200 Raw request

Oh right, so that's why it's so cheap... Thanks for the advise! I will use it only for astro, and nothing else. I will be using it with the iOptron Skyguider pro on some ultra-wide angle lenses, and a canon 70-200 2.8 is3 zoom lens. I hope you get your X-T200 soon! I'll start looking for the cheapest xt200 deal as well.

Also, do you remember how the rear display conpares with the XT2 when manually focusing on stars?

Oh one more thing I'm worried about with the X-T200, if it has an amp glow like the XT2 or not? I think the XT100 doesn't have a glow, which is great!

G'day,

Here is a 30 second exposure at ISO6400 from my X-T200.

http://www.simonkeogh.com/images/DSCF2155.RAF

I've been doing some wide field imagery of milky way and am impressed using this ISO with short exposures. I've not had another decent camera to compare with though (my previous camera is from 2009) so perhaps I'm easily pleased! The 15-45mm lens supplied with the x-t200 is great at the wide end.

One day I hope to get a star tracker and try some longer exposures. There seems to be stock issues though at the moment here in the UK.

Hope this file useful.

Simon.

PS. I'm not checking the site very often due to local lockdown + homeschooling duties

Thank you so much for sending that over!!!

Oh Wow!!! THat's great to hear!  Are you able to share some images in full-res (jpg is okay but raw is a life saver!)?  I just want to see if the dim stars are being "de-noised" or if any spatial-filtering is being applied.  I'm almost ready to place my order with for an X-T200 but I'm still holding back til I see samples of the stars.

This will be very helpful!

May I also request for an X-T100 RAW file at ISO6400 30seconds dark frame please?

I would like to be able to compare it with the image that simonsuniverse has sent.

No worries. I've put 3 samples in this directory, which you can hopefully click on and download for yourself. The images are the same shot of Cygnus taken with 45mm zoom on my xc15-45 lens. ISO is 6400, exposure 10 seconds.

http://www.simonkeogh.com/images

The files start with DSCF1991 and there is the jpg from the camera plus the raw file and also a enhanced jpg (see below) that I produced in GIMP from the original to see if I could see the North American Nebula, which seems clear to me. If I had a star tracker I could probably produce a really nice stacked image even from this lens.

Please note that there is a Long Exposure Noise Reduction setting on the camera that I have had switched on a lot without realising it. It might have been switched off for this shot. Maybe the RAW file will tell you?

The only other thing worth mentioning is that the seeing conditions were OK but not great on the night this image was taken so there was quite a bit of sky glow to contend with. Hopefully it's OK though.

Hope this helps.

Re: X-T200 Raw request

Hi Simonsuniverse,

These are very useful thank you so much!!! And yeah if you have a star tracker that would be great!

I hope aramgrg can also analyse these images and let us know what he thinks.

Also, there are some other users that are looking for X-T200 astro samples. I'm not sure how to tag you on the thread but they have done a lot of work testing the X-T2, X-T3, and the X-T100 for astrophotography use. The discussion is in https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64411095 and I think if you share your photos there it would help a lot!  I have shared a jpg version of your RAW file yesterday and pointed them to your original post so that they can read your message and download the ISO6400 RAW file themselves - I tried to tag you but I don't know how to do it though.

Thanks again!!!
