Green trail when taking milky way

Hello folk,

It's been month I didn't touch my camera. And few days ago I decided to take some photo of the milky way. Unfortunately, I have a big green tail on the picture and my other photo have the same issue. Only with a long pose.

Canon 800D - Samyang 14mm/2.8

Do you think that it's an issue with the lens or the camera or may be I did something wrong when taking the picture. I don't know. Thanks in advance for the tips.

Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D / Kiss X9i

I would say the same. But I think you should try it again changing the orientation of the camera: if you are shooting portrait, take a second shot as landscape.

If the problem is on the camera or in the lenses, the green hue should follow orientation. If not, it's the environment.

No I don't think it's light pollution. I went somewhere very very dark. Camping Mosquic Campground. If you check in a light pollution map, it's very dark. I'll try to do some other tests then (i didn't do it at the camping because I noticed that when I was back to home)

Nothing is wrong with the lens or the camera.  You captured some "air glow", light being given off by oxygen (green) and other gasses (other colours) from low level ionization in the atmosphere.  This is not aurora, but results from a similar chemical reaction of the atmospheric components in the upper atmosphere.

Enjoy your lens.  It is one of my favourites.  Nice photo too!
