I wanted to try out some forest photos hiking with my X-T4 and 16-55, and especially see how it handled sun-stars/starbursts closed down as well as flare. Shot with a B+W polarizer filter on tripod. Not sure if I turned off IBIS though, will have to wonder for next time if I should have. Used timer and 2 second delay. Pretty pleased, but going to keep working on this throughout the fall. Body and lens are a nice combo so far. I am a fledgling landscape photographer in the future system.

To get the good sun stars you have to stop down even further. Something in the realm of f16 to f22 though yours is pretty good for f9. Not sure I see much difference between yours and mine even though mine is stopped down more. But I was noticing it when I took my shot the star was getting better as I stopped down more.

Thank you and that is great feedback. I stayed under F11 because of the polarizer, I guess I was hoping to avoid flare on the extra glass elements. I did try some at F16, but I had changed the angle enough for that shot that the lens flair ruined the shot. But yes, the star was a bit nicer all else being equal.

Not necessarily - sunstars are mostly lens-dependent. On some you can get good sunstars even at f/5.6 or so. Stopping down to f/16 or 22 will indeed emphasize the effect however diffraction will have a negative impact on image sharpness.

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn’t aware sun stars were possible at f5.6 but yes diffraction takes it’s bite at a certain point. I’m just happy Fuji lenses provide decent sun stars.

Agreed, solid performance from this lens in that regard.
