That can perform on par for still photos with  Hasselblad True Zoom module on a Moto phone? If you aren't familiar with it, it has a 10x optical zoom. In the past, I had a Samsung S4 zoom with similar reach.

Do you shoot with the Moto 10X Mod or are you shopping?  I don't see examples on your linked page.  (I have a Mod compatible Moto phone but would tend to buy a compact zoom camera rather than a phone snap-on, for RAW and for battery life.)

I have a true zoom. Actually, I just got my second one. First one became unusable due to large amount of dust inside. I use it on a Moto Z2 Force.

Here are a few shots:

Had not heard of this, thanks for posting about it. Nice shots.

Haven't seen them even on Kijiji for less than couple of hundred.

Here's hand-held algorithmic 8x zoom from GCam 7.3 (UltraCVM port) on my Moto Z3 Play - have to wonder how much is to gain from the optical add-on:

[It's a new GCam for me with a lot of unfamiliar settings, possible I can improve detail for this phone with some tweaks.]

That's impressive, but I think you'd benefit from the optical zoom. My phone is running Android 8, so i can't run the app you are using.

You can get a used Hassy true zoom for about $100 -$120 all day long on ebay.

Have to say it's tempting, although I'm leery of used anything (as opposed to manufacturer refurbs, that have worked for me).  How do you like the app for the True Zoom Mod?  Last I looked there's very little online to show how it actually works.  I'm not wild about the Moto stock camera app, and have replaced it with GCam and another app for manual controls and DNG output.  (BTW, a quick stab at the GCam's denoise and sharpness settings did render better texture on a second take.)

The unit pairs up quickly and effortlessly. Just pop it on and you're ready to shoot. It does offer manual control, but it's a bit cumbersome to use. It has an on/off switch (which I don't use- I use the camera icon on screen). It has a lever to zoom from wide to tele. I usually edit in Snapseed, or import to  my PC and use Photoline.

Here are a some shots straight from camera, no editing, from wide to tele to show you the range:

Re: 12k4

Thanks. Looking at the sign text on the lightpole, it clearly does better than GCam at that distance and as you say, there'd be room for post-processing.  Seems to get reasonable hand-holding speed and ISO on a cloudy day - always a question with telephoto.   I was disappointed the Moto stock camera doesn't permit DNG (assuming that's required to use the Mod). The Z3 Play enables Camera2 API Level 3, and produces quite good RAW output with other apps. Planning on keeping the phone for three or four years, I could see picking up a True Zoom at a good enough discount.
