Macro Lens for Canon Rebel T7

Can someone recommend a good (affordable - is that possible?) macro lens for my T7?  I will be taking close ups of insects?  Thank you.

By the way I have tried using extension tubes but I was not happy with the results.

A used Canon 100 mm f 2.8 or a used Tamron 90mm.

I think anything shorter than that would be abit hard to use. You'd have to get physically pretty close to the bug and you may end up scaring them away.

I've been very happy with Canon's EF-S 60mm macro. While the MFD (minimum focus distance) is shorter than the 100mm options, MFD is measured from the sensor to the subject. As t he 60mm lens is a shorter lens, the distance from the front of the lens to the subject isn't as much different as the MFD numbers make it sound.

All of the true macro shots in this album are with the 60mm lens.  Some with extension tubes.   Flickr Close Up / Macro

I have enjoyed the sigma 105mm f/2.8 OS HSM macro on my t7i. Sharpest lens I’ve ever used! And cheap! Be careful though as there is an older version without OS i think.

Maybe the Laowa Macro 2x lenses?

Do check out the Canon 55-250 STM for macro. It's a outstanding lens in every regard and does extremely well with macro. I refer to it as one of the very few Holy Grail lenses that are a must have and very inexpensive too.

Guess it depends how you define macro! But i must say, i;ve sold most of my Canon EF-s lenses, but kept the 55-250 STM. It’s brilliant. It auto focuses quick, light, great images. I couldn’t part with it! Especially given the ridiculously low price of it.

In fact, i bought a 350pound adaptor so I could use it on my Fuji instead of paying 600 for something that doesn’t seem to review that much better.

Defintely second the above post about this lens!
