Original OM-D E-M10 in 2020

I have just picked up an original OM-D E-M10 body in "like new" condition in ebay for 140€. It was an impulse buy and I was wondering if it's a reasonable camera to shoot with in 2020. I didn't have much time to think before the auction ended.

I currently have an Olympus E-P2 and a Panasonic GF3 bodies. I mostly shoot with the E-P2 with a Panasonic 14mm 2.8 lens or a Panasonic 25mm 1.7. I rarely use the GF3 body, as I only got that mostly for free with the 14mm lens.

I'm happy with the E-P2 except for a few things: autofocus is extremely slow, and it's noisy at higher ISO to the point that, sometimes, I prefer to shoot with my Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro phone in low light conditions. I also miss WiFi connectivity with my smartphone to share images in an easier way, and an integrated flash would be handy (that's one of the few situations where I use the GF3). Higher dynamic range would also be nice, but I can usually get around that.

Do you think I did the right thing? Is it too old to buy in 2020? I'm wondering if I should have bought a newer and more expensive body instead.

I have the original too and use it quite often. I mainly use my 60/2.8 macro and 25/1.7 lens on it and get very nice images. Enjoy your new/old camera.

Perfectly reasonable. While the camera is a bit old, it's a good upgrade for your E-P2. And the price is good.

I've been using my E-M10 for six years now and never felt the need to upgrade. The Mark ii is only a minor improvement, the Mark iii a bit of a mixed bag and I would not recommend buying anything new and expensive since Olympus called it quits.

Thanks for your opinions. It seems it was a good idea then.

Now I just have to wait for it to arrive next week and decide whether I sell the E-P2 or the GF3.

5 years now and very happy. Great price so you can spend a little bit more on a good lens.

For a fully working camera in very good state, it's a good price.

It was an impulse buy and I was wondering if it's a reasonable camera to shoot with in 2020. I didn't have much time to think before the auction ended.

I currently have an Olympus E-P2 and a Panasonic GF3 bodies.

It will be a big upgrade in all aspects.

Do you think I did the right thing?

Yes.

Is it too old to buy in 2020?

Not at that price.

I'm wondering if I should have bought a newer and more expensive body instead.

Well, Mark II would be a bit better (biggest improvements are in IBIS, EVF and tonal range), but the difference between Mark I and II is fairly minor compared to the difference between your E-P2 and E-M10.

I've used E-M10 very extensively for a few years before upgrading to E-M1 Mark II. I was not babysitting that camera and it took it all like a champ. It still serves its purpose as I gave it away to my father.

Get the Olympus ECG-1 grip and any lens shoots comfortably. I think it may be the best Oly grip design I've used, especially on such a compact camera. Love the way it snaps on and off for access to the battery and card. The camera remains very compact even with the ECG-1. Put the 14-42mm EZ on it and it still all fits in a coat pocket.

The E-M10 original will suit me for any kind of still photography. The only feature I wish Olympus could have modified is focus peaking. The M10 is white whereas my E-M5 II has color options including red. Much better in bright outdoors. Still. the M10 peaking is good for most shots.

At the price they go at now, I'd get a couple more. Digital isn't exactly invisible. I had an E-PL5 IBIS hang up on me not long ago. These things don't have film camera longevity.

Usually, I'm out with the M5 II but there's nothing I'd really miss using the M10 instead although the IBIS differences would be more obvious . Yet for still shots, the M10 is great. It does have one feature over the M5 II. It has a built in flash, as little as I use it.

Excellent camera!

Yes, I have this setup as well and it gives you the opportunity to take a very capable camera with you and fit it into a cargo pants pocket.

I still use my E-M10 when I want to travel light.  It stays in my auto 24/7 with a 12-200 attached.  It is a million times better than the camera I don't have with me because I'm afraid to leave it in my auto.

The E-M10 remains to this day my main camera, nothing wrong with what you can do with it.

I still use my em10 mark 1 quite often and I love it. It will be a big upgrade from the EP2. Now I have it paired with the Oly 9-18 for wide angle shots. Good color rendering. Enjoy it!!

You did well. A well rounded camera with all the basics to enjoy photography and even making a living. For 140€ it's a no-brainer bargain!

I still use mine regularly, even though I purchased an EM 1 a few months back.

Compared to the EP2, shooting at higher iso's will be improved, as will AF, though the likes of an EM 1 or 5II are even better.

The 16mp sensor isn't as contrasty.

That's about what I recently got for my Olympus E-3 with battery grip on E-bay.  So I would say you got a good deal!  The E-M10 is faster and better in many ways.

It arrived today. I couldn't be happier. It's in perfect condition and turned out to have only 6200 shutter actuations. Well below my E-P2 which has more than 20000.

Have made some test shots and it seems a huge improvement. Not bad for 140€.

Just one question: I remember to have read somewhere that there's a way to make the "bubble level" appear on half press, but so far I've been unable to find how. Is there really a way to do that?

Thanks everyone!
