LUMIX G7 Panorama defaulting to B&W

Hello all,

I'm fairly much a newbie, and recently bought a Panasonic Lumix G7.

I'm starting to experiment with shooting panorama shots.

I had no problem shooting about 6 pano shots and they look pretty good opening in Preview on my iMac...BUT, the've defaulted to Black & White Jpeg files.

Why would this be happening. Immediately before taking the panorama shots, I took about 6 Colour shots in the same location, and they're RAW and in colour as expected.

I had the camera set to take RAW only, without the added Jpeg of each

So, 2 queries. Does panorama always default to Jpeg, or is it possible to take pano shots in RAW mode. And secondly, what do I need to do with settings in order to make the pano shots Colour?

I used to have a G7, and no the Panoramas are not always b&w. In fact I never saw that. Something must be set that to do that, that you don't want.

Thanks Joseph, I'll check it out. What about it also defaulting to Jpeg, when I already had RAW as the setting for the 'still' shots taken immediately before taking the pano shots?

In-camera panorama feature of Panasonic is defaulted to jpg, using video technology such that the height of the frame is fixed to 1920 pixel...

Due to the limitation of the in-camera Panorama: jpg only, limited on height, hit and miss, easier to have motion artifact etc, I prefer to stitch multiple shots by the free ICE in PP.

B&W? Had you apply filter effect to it? What was your Photo Style in used?

Thanks to you both for suggestions. I'm going to do a few experiments and will get back to you with results, ands maybe post the photos.

I'm using Affinity Photo and it's quite good. A one time buy which is better than subscription to PS.

The Panorama within Lumix G7 is absolutely fantastic...seamless stitching done automatically in the camera, but as you said, it defaults to Jpeg. I haven't figured out why it defaulted to B&W yet but will investigate further.

To get RAW Colour shots for making a panorama, I took 3 single shots, moving camera on tripod from left > right, with a slight overlap for each shot.

I then used the Panorama function within Affinity Photo to stitch them into one wide panorama, and then subsequently did adjustments to colour etc. The Panorama function in Affinity Photo is great, seamlessly stitching automatically. I just needed to crop a bit to get neat border.

The resulting photo is in my Gallery here in the forum if you want to see it. As it's my first time here, I don't know if there's another way to view the shot.

It's just a street but was good for the experiment.

Cheers...

Not sure but suspect you’ve accidentally selected a Monochrome/BW style in Creative Control. I accidentally selected Expressive though that was on a TZ60. As it happens, I liked the effect which adds punch.

I use the free Image Composite Editor (ICE) from Microsoft. A very user friendly, powerful enough, light weight and free software.

I often encounter some minor issues of this and that on the in-camera panorama features (what can I complain? Moving objects in the frame, inconsistency panning speed of myself... ):

I do it on handheld shots:

Re: LUMIX G7 Panorama defaulting to B&W

Thanks again. I'm on an iMac so don't use windows systems.

I checked the Lumix this morning, and for some reason when I select Panorama mode it was defaulting to B&W, even though it was set to Standard / Colour for regular stills. I did manage to take a panorama with it in colour, so hopefully that's sorted.

At about 90$AUD, Affinity Photo is great for my needs, in fact I'm at this moment making some Cover Art for an album of music which will be on all the streaming sites, using a photo I took a few years ago on iPhone. It's good to be able to 're-expose' it in Affinity and then use the tools etc and add Text.

I did try a Demo version of Alien Skin's EXPOSURE X5, but I decided that the exposure function in Affinity is fine for me, and I didn't like the way Exposure X5's import and filing system works. Probably good for a full-time professional photographer doing commercial work with thousands of shots, but I prefer to have it a bit more 'old school' where I just make my own Folders in Finder etc.
