EOS R5: Customize the Rate Button

Currently you can customize all the buttons on the camera except the "Rate" button.  In my opinion the least used function.  Do you want canon to give use the ability to customize the "Rate" button?

Re: EOS R5: Customize the Rate Button

If you go to the blue menu #4 you have some (very limited) ability to customise it. I suppose this special customisation is why it doesn't appear in the generic button customisation menu.

Re: EOS R5: Customize the Rate Button

I'm not opposed to more configuration, but for me I always set the rate button to "protect". When out in the field I can quickly mark individual pictures from a burst as keepers and after that tell the camera to "delete all pictures on card" (which will just keep the protected pictures). But yeah, that button would be prime real estate for some often used function if your workflow is different.

Re: EOS R5: Customize the Rate Button

This is one of the many suggestions people had over at Canon Rumors for this thread:

https://www.canonrumors.com/forum/threads/dear-canon-r5-and-r6-firmware-upgrade-and-feature-requests.38815/page-4

It would be great if you would log your interest in this feature or any others with Canon, so they receive and act on valuable user feedback.

How do you do that?

The rate button is useless for me. Let us customize that button to whatever we want.

Re: there is always one

This just seems like an endless thing with every camera I have owned - a button that never gets any use

My 400D and 7D had the print button

5D II, 5D IV and now R5 have the rate button

OK, maybe not all. I have a M50 too, and it just have too few buttons to have a useless one

And I'm curious if someone would vote no for this poll

Its pretty customize-able as is

I actually use it, but in reality... the camera is so customize-able I don't see a need to make that one button anything else.

Have there been any recent Canons that had the ability to customize half as many buttons? (Question more out of curiosity than making a point)

Never mind. I found the "delete images" in the Play menus. I have never used those menus as I typically just dump everything to Bridge and  cull from there.

Your suggestion works well for the field when you have to shoot numerous images to get one keeper.

I wonder if that is because there was no "I'm indifferent" option. I'll probably remain curious about why anyone is opposed to this

I said no because there is no good reason to waste resources on it. If it could be done without a cost to other more pressing issues, sure... why not... customize your buttons until your heart is content.

Fair enough... nothing is zero cost. even this comment was some effort to type in. But in all fairness, I don't know the cost. I guess they did spend resources making so many buttons customisable. Hopefully, they learned enough to make that a trivial thing by now. Or maybe not... I don't even know the reason why that button isn't customisable while many others are. I guess that was the point of the OP... ask canon, and see how they feel about it. They will be in a better position to weigh the effort

For all I know... it may just be that buttons mappings are just stored in a LUT and they just need to include this one - a minor code change. Or it can be more complicated where the LUT has a fixed size they might have exhausted already. Or something as impossible as this button being wired very differently at hardware level

Only canon may know. I can only say whether I would like it if it can be done
