Fujifilm X100V vs Xpro2 with 35mmf2
3

Hey. I am buying a new camera soon and right now these two cameras cost more or less the same. I got an XT2 and the 23mmf2 + 18-55, 55-200, 12mmf2.

I'm in need of a backup camera for photoshoots, travel etc.

If I get the the X100V I will sell the XF23mmf2 and get the 35mm 1.4 for my XT2

If I get the Xpro 2 I will keep the 23mm and get the xf35mmf2

I do prints up to A1 (24x33 inches) fine art.

Is the difference in quality any noticable on A1 prints?

I like travelling light but also want good optics for portraits.

I don't care about filming, fast AF or touchscreens. I want beautiful quality photos for printing.

Hopefully going to Africa next year and will be out in the wild with my gear.

Recently spend 6 months in NZ with my Fujifilm

Plenty of photos from that trip here @sufstreet on insta.

Thanks!

XF55-200mm shot in NZ with the XT2

The X100V is sharper than the 23f2 so if that's a focal length you use a lot then getting the X100V would give you both better IQ and a second, smaller body.

Is there a reason you are considering the X-Pro2 instead of a second X-T2 which would give you identical controls and button layout on your second camera?

I think it really depends on what you want in a camera. The 100v is a great, fun camera! But it's a fixed lens camera. I love mine!

I look at it as a point n shoot camera on steroids. I has great image quality and a lot of features that some cameras don't have. Leaf shutter, neutral density, build-in flash, digital zoom, sharp 23mm F2 lens, with a smaller footprint.

I looked at purchasing the 100v to compliment my T-3. Something that I only think about taking pictures, not which lens do I need.

Either one will give you the same image quality. The pro will allow you to change lenses. If you want that ability then choose the pro.

X100v is not a true backup, becauase it is fixed lens. If your XT2 breaks up, you will be limited.

If I get the Xpro 2 I will keep the 23mm and get the xf35mmf2

If you can stretch the budget, get the 35 f1.4.

I do prints up to A1 (24x33 inches) fine art.

Any camera will do it fine.

No.

I like travelling light but also want good optics for portraits.

The XPRO2 is not the lighter option. I suggest an XT30with the 35 f1.4.

I don't care about filming, fast AF or touchscreens. I want beautiful quality photos for printing.

One more reason to get a camera that allows changing lenses:)

X-Pro2 with 35mm f2 WR because I'm biased.

I don't care what people say but the XF 23mm f2 R WR is plenty sharp so no need to replace it with the X100V. I used it at my wedding and the detail it resolves is just great. The OOF is perfect as I really didn't want to overdo it. The portraits are plenty sharp (Sometimes too sharp). I have the graphite version though so not sure if it had anything to do with the QA.

The 35mm f2 WR is a great lens. Sharper than the 1.4 at the centre (minus the corners because of the correction). Highly recommended if corner sharpness is not an absolute priority.

The only reason I would get the X100V is the AF or if you want the smaller size.
Also, Paulo is right. X100V is not really a back-up.

p.s. I have the X-pro2 and X-T1 as a backup.

I'm with Paulo on this one. You need a second ILC body if what you want is a backup.

As i have a Nikon FX as working gear i can just tell you the x100v is a great little Camera and i am planning to use it for Portrait Sessions in the Future. And i will defintely plan it as Backup for Portraits Reportage Jobs.

I just like the look of X pro 2 more but could not afford it 2 years ago + I like old rangefinder cameras. It will make me want to shoot more street. It will be my street and one camera one lens kind of duo. If I buy it. Could also get the X100f and a 35mm f1.4 for the same price.

I completely understand, I have a graphite X-Pro2 which I really like. It has the best thumbrest design in all Fuji land so it feels great in hand.

If you have an XT2 I don't really see the point of getting an XP2, size, and weight size are redundant. If you want portability the XF10 is the answer.

Due to the corner hybrid viewfinder, it's a different shooting experience, which I personally consider more enjoyable.

I side with the X-Pro2. It’s an amazing camera - similar to your XT2 of course in what it can do, but (IMO) a much better form factor that’s more fun to use.

X100V is probably even more fun since it’s smaller and lighter too, but I can’t get past the fixed lens. As others have said, it won’t be a proper backup to your XT2 and will limit your ability to use and enjoy the lenses you already have.

Personally I would save a little extra and get the 35 1.4 though. That’s the one Fujinon I’ll never be without, and fixed on the front of an X-Pro2 it beats any X100 hands down.

I clearly said SIZE and WEIGHT redundancy, I never mention “shooting experience”. If the OP wants something lighter and smaller the XP2 is not the solution. 🙄

And yes, “I get it” I have 2 Leica M bodies so I know how a REAL rangefinder experience is.

Well, pardon me.  I agree with you really.  I wasn’t speaking to you directly by the way.  I’m a former M and Contax G user too ... I prefer Fuji these days.

X-E3 and 23/2.  It will make a nice small package, excellent IQ.  The 23/2's vice is open and close up.  Otherwise it is a very satisfactory lens.

If you are a Fuji ILC user then the X100V doesn't make sense as it isn't anywhere near as versatile as a backup as one of the other Fuji ILCs.

I've long avoided handling the X100 series as I know I'd fall in love with it and I'd waste a shed load of money on one.  I've also hankered after an X-pro but honestly what I've got is enough.

I like pictures with a bit of fairy dust. I dont mind if its not to megasharp as long as it looks good printed. I also own thd 23mm f2 and love street and portrait photography. But I could also get the X100f sell my 23mmf2 and get the 35mm 1.4 for my XT2.

But the look of Xpro2 with the 35mm1.4 is stellar. And by the looks of all the photos Ive seen with this setup it is the only camera 99% of us street/travel & portrait photographers would ever need in terms of image quality and funfactor.  Could be me go to one lens one camera on my photographic weekend trips.
