What do you miss the most from 5D Mark IV now that it is the last 5D DSLR...

The 5D Mark IV is end of an era for us DSLR shooters now that Canon will no longer release any updated models. For those of us that used it over the years and transitioned to the R or R5/R6 series, what do you miss the most from the old body? I have the two Camera side by side and despite it being a 4 year old model, it still looks very sharp and very well built!

I said optical viewfinder, but not for the normal reasons. The R5 has proven to me a high quality EVF is better, but the lack of instantaneous subject acquisition is a lot to give up for wildlife photogs. The extra .500 a second may not seem like a lot, but it is.

Sum of the parts

The great thing about Canon cameras is the whole is greater than the sum of the points. It's called Gestalt, and if Gestalt was a metric in camera comparisons, Canon would lead by a very long way.

Feature spec sheets are just about the worse way to assess a camera and to try to isolate a single feature in this way, for me, misses the point.

Make no mistake about it, this is THE BEST camera I have ever shot. Small dislikes, have little to no influence on the strengths of the camera. Also note, my opinion is biased on the type of shooting I do.

I miss the grip on my 5D4. The R5's grip although beefier than other mirrorless cameras, doesn't feel like the 5D4.

I definitely miss the grip. Both my 5Ds and my 7D2 felt better, but I'm getting used to the R5. Still better than everything on the mirrorless market (sub Medium Format), though I've never held the big Olympus.

Are you hanging on to the 7d2 or has it gone already?

Machines were mice and men were lions once upon a time. But now that it's the opposite it's twice upon a time.

The one thing I miss the most from the 5DmIV to the R is the size of the body.  I heard the R5 is a bit larger than the R and fits the hand better.  But I miss the larger body size and hope the R5 is closer to the 5-series.  It's the one issue that I have with mirrorless.  Just because you can make things smaller, doesn't always mean it's better.  I'm hoping my (hopefully soon to be delivered) R5 will be a bit more ergonomic in the hand vs the R.

(And the R was by far the most comfortable mirrorless I have held when I was looking to try mirrorless out.  There is NO WAY I could ever shoot with a Sony as they were very uncomfortable and nearly impossible for my big paws to hold and use comfortably).

That's probably going to be the one I sell. Not sure yet, but I think it will be.
